Virginia Dare is a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based flavor and extract company originally founded in 1835. The company evolved into the Virginia Dare Extract Co. in 1923, with a focus on creating and supplying flavors for the food and beverage, health and wellness, nutritional product, sweet goods, dairy, and pharmaceutical and oral care industries.

However, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are hoping to make it easier for American consumers to make smart food and beverage choices.
In an effort to encourage consumers to add more joy and wellness to their life, Evolution Fresh, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Co., has declared Jan. 26 as the first-ever National Green Juice Day. To celebrate, Evolution Fresh is teaming up with on-demand delivery service Postmates to deliver free Green Juice Breaks, a three-pack of 15.2-ounce, cold-pressed, high-pressure processed (HPP) Sweet Greens and Lemon juices, to consumers in 15 cities, the company says.
At an annual wellness appointment, most doctors will preach about living a healthy lifestyle to help prevent the development of illnesses. As more consumers embrace this proactive approach, beverage-makers are seeking ingredients that can support this health-and-wellness trend.

Burwell and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack released updated nutritional guidelines that encourage Americans to adopt a series of science-based recommendations to improve how they eat to reduce obesity and prevent chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

Reflecting the evolving needs of today's consumer and the increased desire for more better-for-you choices on-the-go, Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo Inc. launched a new, state-of-the-art food and beverage vending initiative called Hello Goodness.
Just as the lyrics state, “to keep your engine running you need energy for your high-powered, revved up body machine,” in the educational Schoolhouse Rock! video “The Body Machine,” food and beverage manufacturers are making sure that today’s products are packed with the vitamins and minerals not just to fuel the human body, but also maintain a healthy lifestyle.
When it comes to their health, U.S. consumers have their share of concerns. According to Bellevue, Wash.-based The Hartman Group’s “Health and Wellness 2015” report, on average consumers are actively treating 3.4 health conditions and proactively preventing 6.2 health conditions.
