There’s an old adage that talks about the need to never stop learning. In the wine and spirits industries, the adage holds true. On-premise, wine and food pairings continue to be a topic of conversation for many, myself included.
Birra Moretti, a brand of Five Points Trading Co., a division of White Plains, N.Y.-based Heineken USA, announced it is teaming up with Bocce, Italy’s beloved pastime, to encourage legal-drinking aged consumers to come together and enjoy two Italian classics with friends, family and fellow patrons at their favorite local bar, at home or at other outdoor social gatherings this fall.

Chicago-based Phusion Projects LLC, the maker of Four Loko, is releasing a new line of spirits: Four Loko Shots. This marks Four Loko's first foray into the liquor business, as the company continues to use innovation as a springboard for sustained growth, it says.
Regardless of whether consumers are drinking beer, wine or spirits when dining out, suggested food pairings and recommendations from influencers, like bartenders and wait staff, can motivate consumers to try something new or trade up to a more premium product.

Bacardi Ltd. announced the release of Smart Cube technology from Martini. The traditional ice cube-shaped device can be added to a drink with regular ice cubes. As the drink is consumed, the Martini Smart Cube uses Bluetooth technology to anticipate when a drink is finished and communicates with the bar in real-time, the company says.
In its March report titled “Pouches,” Cleveland-based The Freedonia Group indicates that the U.S. pouch market will grow 4.4 percent a year through 2020 to $10.1 billion, primarily driven by the introduction of pouches in new markets and the integration of high-value features, such as re-sealable closures and spouts, in more mature markets.
