More than 15,000 attendees from 50 states and 60 countries attended the 19th annual SupplySide West tradeshow, which took place Oct. 5-9 at Las Vegas’s Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center. This year’s tradeshow — “Where Science & Strategy Intersect” — also featured a Natural Products Insider Track and SupplySide Summits on marketing insights, functional foods, omega-3s and cognitive health.

Hosted by Informa Exhibitions, this year’s tradeshow featured more than 2,000 exhibitors showcasing nearly 10,000 ingredients and services.

The following are highlights from beverage ingredient suppliers:

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM)/WILD Flavors & Specialty Ingredients, Chicago, showcased a red apple enhanced water infused with antioxidants, natural flavoring and coloring, and Fibersol, a soluble dietary fiber ingredient, along with a Bartlett Pear Greek yogurt smoothie, a natural, non-GMO and clean label beverage. 

ADM/Matsutani, Itasca, Ill, highlighted its patented soluble fiber Fibersol. The ingredient is available in concentrates, liquids and powders.

AIDP Inc., City of Industry, Calif., highlighted its lineup of plant-based proteins and egg white protein, available in organic and non-organic varieties, along with its fruit juice and vegetable juice powders.

Ajinomoto North America Inc., Itasca, Ill., showcased its Advantame, a sweetener that is GRAS approved for non-alcohol beverages, frozen dairy products and milk.

Allen Flavors, Edison, N.J., offered prototypes of an organic black tea with Kentucky bourbon flavor; an organic iced tea and lemonade; a green apple pre-workout energy drink; and a red velvet cake workout recovery beverage.

Aloecorp, Seattle, highlighted its product lineup of raw aloe vera products in gel, whole leaf, concentrate and powder formats.

American International Chemical, Framingham, Mass., showcased its Nutramunity Beta-Glucan, a Beta-1,3/1,6-Glucan (NBG ) Particulate.

Beneo Inc., Morris Plains, N.J., highlighted its natural food ingredient products for the reduction of sugar, fat and dairy.

Bioenergy Life Sciences Inc., Minneapolis, showcased new beverages containing Bioenergy Ribose, including ChoN’anga, a “chocolate with benefits” recovery drink, and Chasing Rabbits Natural Energy Beverage, which is made with green tea antioxidants, Ribose, vitamins B and C, and non-GMO sweeteners and flavors.

BI Nutraceuticals, Long Beach, Calif., offered two prototypes: a sweet tea with its guayusa extract and a tropical peach juice with its acerola powder extract.

Biothera, Eagan, Minn., highlighted its Wellmune immune-boosting ingredient, which recently was acquired by Kerry Ingredients.

Blue California, Ranch Santa Margarita, Calif., showcased its L-Ergothioneine, a naturally occurring amino acid found in small quantities in mushrooms, oats, garlic and more. It also announced that it has applied for GRAS certification for the ingredient.

Cargill, Minneapolis, introduced its next-generation sweetener: EverSweet, a zero-calorie sweetener developed from the stevia leaf. EverSweet provides up to 100 percent sugar replacement using the optimal sweetness of Reb M and D, and is made from fermentation. It will be commercially available in 2016, the company says. 

Carolina Innovative Food Ingredients, Nashville, N.C., provided a sweet potato smoothie. It also announced that its new manufacturing plant is scheduled to open by year’s end.

Century Foods International, Sparta, Wis., promoted its research and development and custom formulation capabilities for contract packaging ready-to-drink (RTD) sports drinks, pediatric electrolyte drinks, energy drinks and protein powders. 

ColorMaker, Anaheim, Calif., highlighted its lineup of natural colorants and customized natural color blending processes.

Dairy Farmers of America, Kansas City, Mo., promoted its contract manufacturing capabilities for shelf-stable coffees, energy drinks, coconut waters, nutritional drinks, weight-loss beverages and protein shakes.

David Michael & Co., Philadelphia, offered an orange pineapple basil morning energy juice drink using its natural orange pineapple basil flavor emulsion.

Diana Foods, Saddle Brook, N.J., offered its all-natural Maqui beverage, a mixed berry instant smoothie prototype that contains Maqui juice powder and acerola powder.

DuPont Health & Nutrition, New Century, Kan., launched a new protein supplement powder, Supro XT 221D, isolated soy protein, and used for dispersing protein in dry-blended beverages in nine seconds, the company says.

Flavorchem, Downers Grove, Ill., highlighted its lineup of protein powder flavors available in molten chocolate, whipped vanilla, cookies ‘n’ cream, strawberry milkshake, salted caramel, pumpkin spice latte, caffé latte, cinnamon bun swirl, mint chocolate chip and chocolate peanut butter cup, the company’s allergen-free variety.

Flavor & Fragrance Specialties, Mahwah, N.J., offered a chocolate chai protein smoothie.

Flavor Producers, Valencia, Calif., introduced Emulz, a new flavor delivery system that utilizes high-pressure emulsion technology and is available in several flavors, including blood orange, coffee, meyer lemon and peppermint.

FMC Corp., Philadelphia, showcased its range of natural color solutions, which provide texture in neutral and low pH applications.

Fortitech/DSM, Parsippany, N.J., highlighted its lineup of FloraGLO Lutein Fortitech premixes for heart health, vision, immunity, cognition and performance.

FutureCeuticals Inc., Momence, Ill., highlighted its patented Trim technology, which is used to enhance ready-to-mix protein beverages. It also showcased Nutrim, which uses an oat bran powder; Quinoatrim, which uses quinoa powder; and ModCarb, which uses six organic health grains — oats, amaranth, buckwheat chia, millet and quinoa — for pre- and post-workout beverages.

Ganeden Inc., Mayfield Heights, Ohio, in partnership with Uncle Matt’s Organic, Clermont, Fla., announced the nationwide release of two new organic juices: Organic Orange Turmeric and Reduced-Calorie Orange Coconut that contain its probiotic GanedenBC30, which helps support immunity and digestion, the company says.

Glanbia Nutritionals, Fitchburg, Wis., offered a vegan nutritional shake made with HarvestPro Pea Protein 83EF, BevGrad Chia White, BevGrad Xtra Smooth, AlgaVia Whole Algal Potein, Ganeden BC30 probiotic, truebroc broccoli seed extract and pterostilben.

Gold Coast Ingredients, Commerce, Calif., highlighted its flavor offerings with an apple fennel flavored isotonic drink and a cucumber lime flavored isotonic drink. Additionally, the company announced that it acquired a new, 52,000-square-foot building. 

Hilmar Ingredients, Hilmar, Calif., offered a raspberry high-protein clear drink fortified with Hilmar 9020 whey protein isolate and a strawberry banana smoothie with Hilmar 9000 whey protein isolate.  

Ingredion Inc., Westchester, Ill., showcased a lemon-flavored iced tea featuring its Nutraflora prebiotic fiber, derived from pure sugar cane using a bio-fermentation process.

InterHealth Nutraceuticals Inc., Benicia, Calif., highlighted its UC2, a soluble protein powder used in sports recovery drinks.

Kyowa Hakko, New York, announced that Cognizin citicoline, a brain health ingredient that provides nutritional support for attention, focus and recall, achieved GRAS status and has a U.S. Patent Pending.

Natreon, New Brunswick, N.J., featured its raw ingredients, including ayurvedic, shown effective in promoting heart health, along with its stress and cognition ingredient featuring Ashwagandha extract.

Naturex, South Hackensock, N.J., offered the sports drink, WinBev, which contains cucumber juice, rosemary leaf, acerola, ginger root and lime granules to improve post-workout hydration naturally, the company says.

Nth Degree Innovations Inc., Edison, N.J., highlighted its lineup of zero-calorie sports waters and sports drinks powered by Platatinose, a low-glycemic sweetener developed by Beneo that digests more slowly to fuel the body over a longer period of time, the company says.

Novel Ingredients, East Hanover, N.J., launched its patented energy performance ingredient, Kinetiq. It also highlighted its new brand position, Wellness from Within, which covers its clinically backed ingredients, processing technologies and distribution capabilities of botanical ingredients.

Nutegrity, Irvine, Calif., showcased its high-performance proteins, including Solatin, a lean, vegetarian, high-quality potato protein isolate and Cocoanol, an organic, kosher, non-GMO, Fair Trade cocoa bean.

PAT Vitamins Inc., La Verne, Calif., celebrated its 20-year anniversary and showcased its lineup of vitamins, sweeteners, amino acids and soy protein isolates.

Pom Wonderful LLC, Los Angeles, highlighted its PomX pomegranate extracts in powered and liquid formats.

Prinova, Carol Stream, Ill., featured its ingredients, flavors and value-added nutrient fortification products.

Prova, Danvers, Mass., showcased its extracts and flavors in the sweet brown category, including vanilla coffee, cocoa and toasted coconut.

Sensory Effects, Defiance, Ohio, showcased its Centennial 75-MCT CCL, a low-carb, spray-dried  powder with VitaCholine, which aids in brain development, cardiovascular health, fitness and energy, liver function, and fat metabolism, the company says.

Steviva Ingredients, Portland, Ore. launched CocoSweet with stevia, a sweetener that contains coconut sugar, a hint of caramel and is a two-to-one replacement for brown sugar, the company says.

Synergy Flavors, Wauconda, Ill., highlighted its lineup of extracts and essences for RTD cold-brew coffees and teas, botanical essences for energy drinks, and vanilla extracts for smoothies and alcohol beverages.

Taiyo International Inc., Minneapolis, highlighted its Sunphenon matcha powder produced from pesticide-controlled matcha leaves.

Virginia Dare, Brooklyn, N.Y., highlighted all-natural matcha green teas flavored with jasmine and lime, and made with its matcha green tea powders and flavor extracts.

Watson, West Haven, Conn., featured a new formulation of its Edible Glitter line, which can be used in beverages.
