A new study commissioned by the International Food Additives Council (IFAC) on carrageenan, a stabilizing ingredient that also is used to support texture and nutrients in many foods and beverages, demonstrated that the ingredient does not induce inflammation in human cells as claimed by carrageenan critics.
Castle Brands Inc., New York, reported financial results for the first quarter of its 2017 fiscal calendar, which ended June 30, 2016. Among the highlights were that net sales increased 1.4 percent to $16.8 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2017.
Stone Brewing Co., Escondido, Calif., announced that it is commemorating its 20th anniversary by crafting a new celebratory double IPA: Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA, brewed with avocado flower honey and Citra hops, the company says. Beginning this week, the craft beer company will release the new IPA in 22-ounce bottles and on-draft to retailers nationwide where Stone Beers are sold, it says.

Report combines greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, refrigeration of beverage in calculations

According to a new study conducted by the ICF International, Fairfax, Va., for the Aluminum Association, Alexandria, Va., the combined greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the transportation and refrigeration of beverages in aluminum cans are lower than those associated with beverages in glass or plastic bottles under the same conditions.
