Natural Products Expo West returns to in-person with Anaheim tradeshow

Beverage-makers, suppliers highlight latest innovations

Informa Markets’ Natural Products Expo West, part of the New Hope Network family of brands, hosted the in-person return of the industry’s largest trade show March 8-12 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. The event gathered more than 2,700 exhibitors and more than 57,000 registered attendees, the company says.

Among the exhibitors that featured companies that operate in the beverage market as well as suppliers that support those beverage operations, the following are highlights from those beverage exhibitors:

Amaz Project Inc. highlighted its line of organic sparkling teas. Amaz Yerba Mate is available in Lemon Ginger, Peach Mango and Acai Blueberry and are formulated with adaptogens to provide consumers with energy, focus and immunity, the company says

Aura Bora showcased its line of its herbal- and fruit-infused sparkling waters. Currently available in five varieties ― Cactus Rose, Lavender Cucumber, Peppermint Watermelon, Basil Berry and Lemongrass Coconut ― Aura Bora will add Elderflower Grapefruit to its lineup later this year.

Ayala’s Herbal Water promoted its flavored water made with organic ingredients. Each Herbal Water blend is all-natural and contains zero calories, zero artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors and zero chemical preservatives.

Blue Monkey YUZU highlighted its Sparkling Tropical YUZU collection. Packaged in 11.2-ounce slim cans, the line is a collection of plant-based nut and oat milks.

Blue Stripes Urban Cacao showcased its Cacao Water that is available in three varieties: Just Cacao, Chili Lime and Passion Fruit. The antioxidant plant-based waters are rich in vitamin C and contain zero added sugar.

Boomerang Energy Inc. highlighted its self-titled non-GMO sparkling energy drink.

C2O Coconut Water showcased its non-GMO coconut water line, which is available in two varieties: Original flavor and With Pulp.

Harmless Harvest introduced Harmless Harvest Organic Coconut Water With Pulp, a new twist on its popular organic coconut water. The beverage will become available at select retailers this spring.

Canopy Growth Corp. hosted an industry panel at the show titled “Cannabis Evolution: The Latest Innovations and Trends in CBD and Wellness,” which featured speakers Sol Clahane, vice president and general manager for the U.S. Region at Canopy Growth, CJ Rapp, CEO of Karma Culture, the manufacturer of Karma CBD Water, and Jonathan Small, editor-in-chief of Green Entrepreneur, for a lively conversation that unpacks CBD wellness trends and highlights innovations powering the CBD space. Canopy Growth’s CBD brands Martha Stewart CBD and Quatreau also were on display at the show.

Celsius Holdings Inc. showcased its collection of dietary supplements, including one of its newest entries: Tropical Vibe, which is a combination of starfruit and pineapple.

High Brew Coffee promoted its line of cold-brewed coffees, which are made from 100% Arabica beans.

Hint Inc. highlighted its portfolio of flavored waters, including Hint Unsweetened Essence Water, Hint Unsweetened Sparkling Essence Water and Hint Energy Unsweetened Essence Water with Caffeine.

Hoplark announced the launch of Hoplark 0.0, a non-alcohol craft brew with zero calories, zero alcohol, zero sugar, zero carbs, zero gluten, and zero added flavors of any kind. Hoplark 0.0 Citra, the first product in the new line, is available now. At the show, the company offered samples of its HopTea and Hoplark Water.

Essentia Water promoted its large format offering of its ionized alkaline water: the Essentia Water 2 Gallon Box. Each external box is made with recycled corrugate and is 100% recyclable, while the inside uses 80% less plastic than eight 1-liter bottles by volume, it says.

Icelandic Glacial showcased its new 5-liter refrigerator pack as well as its 11.1-ounce aluminum can packaging for its still and sparkling varieties.

Karma Culture LLC highlighted its Karma CBD Water. This is the first CBD beverage to launch under the Karma wellness and probiotic waters beverage portfolio and has been developed in partnership with Canopy Growth Corp.

Kill Cliff promoted its Kill Cliff Octane line. The first Octane beverage released was the Killer Cliffsicle, an orange vanilla flavored limited-edition energy drink that contains CBD, the company says.

Lemon Perfect showcased its cold-pressed lemon waters, which are available in four flavors — Just Lemon, Blueberry Açaí, Dragon Fruit Mango and Peach Raspberry.

LIFEAID Beverage Co. promoted its FITAID line. The original features a citrus medley of flavor. The company also offers a Strawberry Lemonade flavor of FITAID.

Lifeway Foods Inc. featured its new, nationally distributed probiotic oat milk, Lifeway Organic Oat. Samples were available in all six flavors. Attendees got a sneak peek of Lifeway MSHRM Oat, the company’s new line of adaptogenic functional mushroom beverages. Additionally, Lifeway offered samples and materials on-hand for the recently acquired GlenOaks Farms brand.

Poppi highlighted its prebiotic carbonated soft drink, which is available in nine flavors ― Watermelon, Strawberry Lemon, Raspberry Rose, Orange, Ginger Lime, Grapefruit, Cola, Root Beer and DocPop.

Plant-based beverage brand REBBL showcased its latest product lines: REBBL POP, a sparkling functional soda, and REBBL Stacked Coffee, a plant-powered cold-brew with additional health benefits.

Reed’s Inc. showcased its portfolio of beverages and candies, including Reed’s Ginger Beers, Virgil’s Handcrafted Sodas, Reed’s Ginger Candy, Reed’s Ginger Ale, Reed’s Daily Ginger and Energy shots and Reed’s CBD Wellness Ginger Beer.

Rise Brewing Co. highlighted its organic nitro cold brew coffee, lattes, tea, cold brew, and oat milk products.

Rowdy Energy announced the brand’s newest product line: Power Burn. Each 12-ounce slim can of Power Burn has 5 calories, zero sugar and provides 160 mg of natural caffeine from green tea and green coffee beans.

Rowdy Mermaid gave attendees a sneak peek of Adaptonic Clarity, a line of sparkling tonic beverages with Lion's Mane mushroom for clarity. Available for trial were the Asian Pear Elderflower and Raspberry Hibiscus varieties. The new line will launch nationally in stores this fall.

Spindrift showcased its sparkling waters that are made with real squeezed fruit, including its recently released Blood Orange Tangerine.

Swoon announced the launch of its Zero Sugar Swoon Sweet Tea. Made with steeped and brewed black tea and sweetened with naturally sugar-free monk fruit, Swoon’s Sweet Tea boasts 24 mg of caffeine.

True Nopal noted its agreement with Green Spoon Sales to represent True Nopal Prickly Pear cactus water across the country. In addition to the Original Prickly Pear Cactus Water, True Nopal also is available in Prickly Pear Cactus Water + Lime and Prickly Pear Cactus Water + Pineapple.

Vita Coco showcased its portfolio of coconut milks, waters, as well as Vita Coco Energy.

 

Ingredient Suppliers

Natural Products Expo West exhibitors also featured a collection of ingredient suppliers. The following are highlights from those exhibitors:

BENEO highlighted a recently published study conducted by Perfood GmbH, Germany, in collaboration with the University of Lübeck, Germany, which demonstrates that BENEO ingredients support a personalized nutrition approach. Conducted under real-life conditions, BENEO’s first citizen science study further confirms the health benefits of BENEO’s slow-release carbohydrate Palatinose and the prebiotic fiber Orafti Synergy1. The results show that both ingredients improve blood glucose control. The study also shows that Orafti Synergy1 beneficially modulates gut microbiota through a significant increase in beneficial bifidobacteria, it says.

Cargill highlighted its EverSweet + ClearFlo technology. The new sweetener system brings together the company’s premier stevia sweetener with a natural flavor, a combination that provides wide-ranging benefits that include flavor modification, improved solubility and stability in formulations, and faster dissolution. Following successful testing with food and beverage customers, commercial quantities of EverSweet + ClearFlo are now available for sale.

Dairy Farmers of America showcased its DFA Ingredient Solutions, which supply and formulate high-quality beverage ingredients for food manufacturers that deliver the flavor, texture, mouthfeel, and more that beverage-makers desire for dairy drinks.

Flavor Producers LLC showcasing four concepts that reflect its Transparently Delicious theme to deliver great taste organically and transparently using these innovative taste technologies in wellness-based products, it says. This year at Natural Products Expo West, the beverage concepts were an organic blush beauty beverage that includes aloe vera and B vitamins with the vibrant taste of organic watermelon and hibiscus taste profile; and organic Sicilian lemon cold brew shandy made with real brewed Italian roast coffee.

Food Ingredient Solutions highlighted its full range of kosher, halal and organic colors and natural antioxidants for the food, drug and cosmetics industries.

Glanbia Nutritionals promoted its expertise in proteins, cheese, seeds and grains, premix solutions, bioactives, flavors, edible films, bakery ingredients, and functionally optimized nutrients.

GNT USA highlighted its plant-based EXBERRY color concepts, which can be used to deliver vibrant shades while supporting completely clean labels, it says.

Ingredion Inc. showcased its VITESSENCE Prista protein concentrate, VITESSENCE pea protein isolate, NOVATION Lumina functional native corn starch, ASTRAEA allulose, PURECIRCLE Reb M, Kerr red sour cherry puree, VERSASWEET low-sugar glucose syrup and VITESSENCE Tex Crumbles textured protein solutions.

Kerry promoted its liquid concentrates as well as mixes and powders for beverage applications.

Kyowa Hakko USA showcased its ingredient solutions Cognizin, Citicoline Setria, Glutathione Velox, Pantesin, Pantethine IMMUSE, LC Plasma EYEMUSE, Kyowa Quality Amino Acids: L-Glutamine, L-Arginine and L-Citrulline.

PLT Health Solutions highlighted its ingredient solutions of 5-LOXIN, ApresFlex, AquaLOX, Artesa, ceratiq, Earthlight, Elantria, Hytolive, RhodioLife, Slendacor, Supresa, Synapsa, Xanthigen, Zembrin, zumXR and Zynamite.

Prinova promoted its capabilities with ready-to-mix powder and beverage solutions. The company also showcased its nutrient premix and custom flavor capabilities.

Pyure highlighted its stevia extracts and blended sweetening solutions for food and beverage manufacturers.

Robertet educated attendees on its natural aromatic extracts, including essential oils, absolutes, carbon dioxide extracts, certified organic ingredients, flavors and fragrances.

Sweegen promoted its portfolio of non-GMO, clean-tasting, nature-based and label-friendly ingredients.

Synergy Flavors highlighted its TRU Stories solutions, which deliver natural essences, extracts and organic certified flavors for beverage-makers.

Later this year, Natural Products Expo East 2022 will take place Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Natural Products Expo West 2023 will take place March 7-11 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
