This holiday season, San Francisco’s Hotaling & Co. Distiller is transforming its Christmas Spiced Ale from 2011 into Old Potrero Christmas Spirit.

The distillers conjured the Christmas spirit by distilling the ale twice in copper pot stills before aging for 12 years in once-used Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey Barrels, it notes. Now, this festive whiskey, which pays homage to San Francisco pioneers in brewing and distilling, will evoke the spirit of Christmases past with its evolving bouquet of orange, chocolate and vanilla, balancing flavors of roasted barley, sweet cinnamon and spiced berries, it says. 

 “This special release captures more than the festive season in a bottle,” said Liz Brusca, vice president of marketing at Hotaling & Co., in a statement. “It brings together San Francisco’s rich brewing traditions and pioneering distilling innovations into one very delicious whiskey that is sure to bring joy to the holiday season.”

Featuring a To and From gift card neck tag on each bottle, the 50% ABV Old Potrero Christmas Spirit now is available to purchase throughout California and online nationwide for a suggested retail price of $139.99 for a 700-ml bottle.
