Clif Shot launches new sports drinks

Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix and Protein Recovery Drink Mix offer athletes more options

September 12, 2013

Clif Shot, a brand of Emeryville, Calif.-based Clif Bar & Co., launched two new sports performance drinks: Clif Shot Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix and Clif Shot Protein Recovery Drink Mix. The introduction of these new products expands the Clif Shot portfolio to provide athletes options for hydration during activity as well as fast-absorbing protein to aid in post-activity recovery, the company says.

Clif Shot Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix is made with 90 percent organic ingredients and is crafted with sodium, other electrolytes and a multiple-source carbohydrate solution to aid in fluid transport, absorption and retention. The 4 percent multiple-source carbohydrate solution helps optimize gastric emptying while maintaining carbohydrates’ positive effects on rehydration, the company says. Clif Shot Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix also is less sweet and lighter tasting than other sports drinks in the market, it says.

Clif Shot Protein Recovery Drink Mix is made with 70 percent organic ingredients and is formulated with ingredients to help the body recover immediately after activity and prepare for the next workout, the company says. Each serving contains 10 grams of whey and casein to help maximize the body’s muscle-building potential and prevent muscle breakdown, it says. The organic glucose in Clif Shot Protein Recovery Drink Mix works to help restore muscle glycogen while the sodium replenishes what is lost during activity, it adds.

“All ingredients in Clif Shot products serve a purpose, so athletes can feel confident that what they’re eating and drinking will help them perform,” said Chris Randall, Clif Shot brand manager, in a statement. “Made by athletes and foodies, Clif Shot Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix and Clif Shot Protein Recovery Drink Mix deliver the nutrition athletes need so they can stay out longer and recover faster.”

Clif Shot Electrolyte Hydration Drink Mix is available in Lemon Lime-Ade and Cranberry Razz varieties in single-serve stick packs and stand-up pouches. The stick packs have a suggested retail price of $1.99, and the stand-up pouches retail for approximately $19.99. Clif Shot Protein Recovery Drink Mix is available in Orange Mango and Chocolate varieties in single-serve packets and stand-up pouches. The single-serve packets have a suggested retail price of $3.29, and the stand-up pouches retail for approximately $24.99. Both performance drink mixes are available in sports retail stores nationwide.
