NHL defenseman Tyson Barrie announced his retirement from professional hockey after 14 seasons. Barrie’s NHL journey started with the Colorado Avalanche, and he quickly earned a reputation as one of the league’s most consistent offensive defensemen.
Now, Barrie has launched Chilly Ones Beer, a premium beverage brand built around the spirit of community and good times, it says. The brand will launch with its Chilly Ones 3% Lager and a 0.3% non-alcoholic version.
“I’m incredibly proud of the career I’ve had and so grateful for the people I’ve met along the way,” Barrie said in a statement. “Very excited to see what the next chapter has in store and looking forward to pursuing something I’m very passionate about with some of my best friends.”
Chilly Ones Beer will debut in British Columbia and Alberta in September, with an expansion to Colorado later in 2025. Broader national rollout is planned for 2026, it adds. The brand is backed by a group of investors, including NHL starts Nathan MacKinnon, Brayden Schenn, Tyler Ennis and Mike Smith. Wesley Schultz, lead singer of The Lumineers, and singer Nathan Rateliff also are investors in Chilly Ones.
“Chilly Ones has been a dream of mine for years and it’s exciting to be able to give it my full attention,” Barrie said. “Hockey gave me more than I could have ever dreamed of. Chilly Ones is about celebrating the moments that matter — with the people who matter most.”
