Sparkling beverage brand Spindrift, Newton, Mass., announced a partnership with Patricof Co, bringing a roster of high-profile professional athletes on board as investors at Spindrift.
A private investment platform specifically for professional athletes, Patricof’s athletes are part owners in Spindrift through the platform’s partnership with Gryphon Investors, a San Francisco-based private investment firm.
This announcement is a first-of-its-kind partnership for Spindrift, as it brings together a diverse roster of athletes who have been longtime Spindrift fans, it says. The lineup includes NBA champion Kevin Durant, NBA star Derrick White, 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Champion and Most Outstanding Player Azzi Fudd and award-winning gymnast Livvy Dunne, among others.
“This partnership is rooted in authenticity,” said Dave Burwick, CEO of Spindrift, in a statement. “These athletes discovered Spindrift on their own and were drawn to our commitment to real ingredients and doing things the hard way. Just like we carefully craft our sparkling water with real squeezed fruit, they’re intentional about the quality of what they use to fuel their performance. That shared mindset has natural evolved into a business opportunity and it’s a powerful endorsement of what we’re building.”
Patricof has a track record of making investments that align with world-class athletes with companies that reflect their personal values, it says. Spindrift’s commitment to real ingredients that help consumers lead healthier, happier lives deeply resonated with this group of athlete investors.
“This came together organically as the athletes know and really love the product,” said Mark Patricof, founder of Patricof Co, in a statement. “It aligns perfectly with how they live and what they care about, so no surprise. PCO and our clients are genuinely excited to be part of what’s next for Spindrift.”
In a statement, White, Boston Celtics player and Spindrift investor, noted Spindrift “checks all the boxes” he’s been looking for and expressed excitement to be part of the brand.
“I was first introduced to the brand by my parents, they brought it home one day and we all became fans right away,” he said. “It offers something different, something fresh and I know when I reach for it, I’m making a healthy choice. So, when the opportunity came up to invest in a brand I already love and trust, it felt like the perfect fit.”
Spindrift is set to launch a short-form video series featuring the athletes to celebrate the partnership. The videos will showcase the athletes participating in a blind taste test format across social media platforms, capturing each athlete’s genuine reactions as they taste through Spindrift flavors and draft their starting Spindrift lineup alongside a surprise “gag” flavor, the brand explains.
The videos emphasize Spindrift commitment to the real, squeezed fruit difference and highlight why it has become the go-to beverage for those prioritizing wellness and great taste, it adds, as well as reflect the athlete’s authentic connection to the Spindrift brand, which is shown through their familiarity with the flavors and how naturally they describe what sets Spindrift apart.
“It’s easy to invest in something you truly enjoy,” said Fudd, UConn Huskies women’s basketball player, in a statement. “I’ve always loved Spindrift, it’s full of flavor, better for you and fits right into my routine as an athlete, where I’m always looking for high-quality, healthy beverages. When you believe in a brand and actually like what it stands for, you know it’s worth being part of.”
