Increased demand for probiotics and prebiotics

Probi expands European reach for its probiotics

July 15, 2016

Allen Flavors Inc., Edison, N.J., announced the appointments of Fred Triolo, manager of flavor creations; Todd Basilone, flavorist; and Ash Ghandehari, western regional sales manager.

Lund, Sweden-based Probi announced that it signed supply and distribution agreements with three companies in Sweden, Iceland and Austria. After a successful launch in Sweden earlier this year, Probi’s iron absorption product, Probi FerroSorb, which targets women at risk of iron deficiency, will be available from pharmaceutical company Sanova Pharm GesmbH this summer, it adds. Additionally, the company announced it has partnered with Swedish BoFood, which offers healthy, environmentally friendly and plant-based food products, and its ProbiDigesti, a probiotic dietary supplement, is being distributed by local partner Distica ehf for the Icelandic market.

City of Industry, Calif.-based AIDP Inc. announced that PreticX, its range of xylooligosaccharide prebiotics, has received certified organic verification and is well-suited for food and beverage applications, the company says. Additionally, a recent University of California Los Angeles study showed that PreticX significantly modified gut microbiota in humans. The prebiotic helped to grow more species of good gut bacteria in healthy and overweight individuals as well as those with higher blood glucose levels, the company reported.

Michael Bush recently was promoted to president of Cleveland, Ohio-based Ganeden. At Ganeden for more than
10 years, Bush most recently served as senior vice president. In his new role, he will be responsible for strategic business development, helping the company expand domestically and internationally while continuing to oversee sales and marketing, the company says.

TIC Gums, White Marsh, Md., released the latest episode in an industry-first video series titled the “Basics of Food Gums, Xanthan Gum & Gellan Gum: Fermentation Gums,” which explains what fermentation gums are, where they originate and why they are used, the company says. The video highlights two types of fermentation gums that fall under the hydrocolloid category: xanthan gum and gellan gum.

ChemConnection, The Netherlands, announced the successful good manufacturing practice production of CriPec Docetaxel for Phase 1/2a Clinical Trials for The Netherlands-based Cristal Therapeutics, a life sciences company developing nanomedicines against cancer and other diseases, the company says. “ChemConnection has made a tremendous leap forward in becoming the global lead center for nanomedicines manufacturing” said ChemConnections Chief Executive Officer Gerjan Kemperman in a statement. “Recent investments in our manufacturing and analytical capabilities have boosted the advancement of nanomedicines.”
