Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. added Zwickel Pils to its series of limited-release Uberbier craft beers. Zwickel Pils is a bottom-fermented pilsner brewed using Hallertau and Tettnang hops and Pilsner malt.  The tradition of Zwickel beers was the hidden secret of brewers who would tap directly from the tank to take home the freshest beer from the brewery in its most pristine, unfiltered condition, the company explains. Because Zwickel Pils is bottled without going through the extensive filtration processes common to other beers, it enters the bottle fresh and continues to age in the bottle, it says. Like all other Gordon Biersch beers, Zwickel Pils is brewed in adherence to the Reinheitsgebot German purity laws of 1516, which stipulates the use of only four ingredients: water, malt, hops and years. Zwickel Pils is available beginning in April wherever Gordon Biersch products are sold for a suggested retail price of $5.99 for a 750-ml swing-top bottle.
