The Mezcal capital of the world, Oaxaca, Mexico, has just set a new world record at Vive Mezcal 2019, bringing together the largest number of different mezcal labels in a single space. The Mezcal Wall (Muro Mezcalero) will be part of a permanent exhibition that can be visited.
According to a January Insights from Nielsen titled “Tops of 2018: Tequila Drove Spirit Category Growth in 2018,” mezcal, a smaller sub-category of tequila, posted the highest growth rate in 2018.

Constellation Brands Inc., Victor, N.Y., acquired a minority stake in the parent company of Mezcal El Silencio, a specially crafted, Los Angeles-based mezcal label and leader in the category.
Sales from high-end premium and super-premium products are fueling a large portion of growth in the spirits industry. When it comes to the tequila segment, the same trend holds true. According to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, U.S. tequila volume from the high-end premium and super-premium sub-categories are up 238 and nearly 652 percent, respectively, from 2002 to 2015.
