2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel debuts

Gnarly Head wines and the Grateful Dead are raising a glass to five years of partnership with a new vintage that pairs bold California winemaking with a collectible twist.

The 2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel debuts this month in a commemorative bottle with a collectible, peel-off sticker label featuring the Grateful Dead’s “Steal Your Face” graphic, reimagined with Gnarly Head’s signature vine iconography.

Once removed, the label reveals hidden bottle artwork inspired by the band’s “Space Your Face” motif, a cosmic interpretation of the iconic skull imagery that has been embraced by the Dead Head community for decades, it notes.

“The excitement around our Grateful Dead releases over the past five years has shown just how much fans enjoy sharing great wine and iconic music,” said Brett Johnson, portfolio director for Delicato Family Wines, producer of Gnarly Head wines, in a statement. “To celebrate five years of partnership, we wanted to create something truly special that fans can continue to enjoy long after the final sip.”

David Lemieux, the Grateful Dead archivist and legacy manager, added: “The Grateful Dead community has always embraced collectibles, artwork, and creative expression as extensions of the band's music and culture. This new limited-edition release captures that spirit perfectly and offers a unique way to connect with the Grateful Dead's iconic imagery while enjoying great-tasting wine.”

Crafted from gnarled, old vines in Central California's Lodi region, the 2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Old Vine Zinfandel delivers the bold, fruit-forward character that defines Gnarly Head wines, packed with juicy dark berry and plum flavors with hints of vanilla and peppery spice on the finish, the company says. The new commemorative bottle honors both Gnarly Head’s deep roots in Lodi’s historic old-vine vineyards and the Grateful Dead’s cultural legacy and visual identity, it notes.

The 2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel began shipping to retailers nationwide this month at a suggested retail price of $12 and will be available until sold out.
