Ahead of the upcoming April 8 solar eclipse, Excel Bottling Co. unveiled its limited-edition Darkest Hour Black Cherry.

“We originally rebranded our Black Cherry in 2017 for the August 2017 eclipse that went through Southern Illinois,” said Excel’s Marketing Manager Carla Baublitz in a statement. “When we thought about what an eclipse soda would look like, we thought a dark blood red color would be perfect — like the color of our black cherry soda. We thought Darkest Hour Black Cherry would be a great name for an eclipse themed soda because there would be an hour in the middle of the day where it would rapidly grow dark as night even though it wasn’t night time yet.”

Packaged in 12-ounce glass bottles featuring labels that glow-in-the-dark, Darkest Hour Black Cherry is sold in a souvenir four-pack holder that commemorates the eclipse, available to purchase in select markets and online for a suggested retail price of $5.99.
