Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials announced the expansion of its Rapid-Roll portfolio with two new offerings: a print-ready stand-up pouch construction and the Pentalabel Eklipse light-blocking shrink film. The additions are part of a broader strategy to help converters grow their business with innovative and eye-catching packaging formats for premium foods and snacks, beverages, household products and other segments, the company says. The stand-up pouch features print-ready facestocks with 3-ml sealant films that can be printed and formed into pre-made pouches, or directly pouched through form-fill-seal lines. In addition, the pouch can accommodate zippers, spouts and other closure systems. It also features durable puncture-resistant construction and a low-seal initiation temperature for higher filler throughput and good machinability, it adds. White and clear versions feature a corona-treated polyester film for flexographic printing while the metallized PET version is corona-treated for surface printing that provides a barrier to moisture, oxygen and light. Designed for ready-to-drink beverages such as functional beverages, organic products and products produced in hot air tunnels, the Pentalabel Eklipse shrink film blocks nearly 100 percent of UV light. The opaque shrink film features the brightest white opaque film technology available, with high shrink properties and compatibility with both glossy and matte varnishes, the company says. Avery Dennison is a U.S. distributor of the Eklipse shrink film, which is produced by Germany-based Klöckner Pentaplast. The shrink packaging also has been shown to be as effective at blocking UV light on heavy, HDPE plastic bottles and works with highly recyclable PET bottles, according to the company.
