Purchase expands beer wholesaler fully into spirits market

In a move that pushes Fort Worth, Texas-based Ben E. Keith Beverages fully into the spirits market, the company has acquired Dallas-based Artisanal Beverage Distributor's assets, adding 20 suppliers to its growing lineup of spirits and expanding its spirits distribution footprint statewide.
At its 81st Convention, the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Craig Purser and outgoing NBWA Chairman Jim Matesich, CEO of Matesich Distributing, welcomed a crowd of more than 1,600 people and highlighted the many accomplishments of the industry during the past year.
Over the past 25 years, it’s been quite a journey to build New Glarus Brewing Co. into a successful craft brewery that annually brews 250,000 barrels of such iconic beers as Spotted Cow, Moon Man and Two Women from two brewery locations in the tiny town of New Glarus, Wis. (population 2,000).
Sometimes you want to take care of your own backyard. That’s essentially the reason that Boston-based Harpoon Brewery — now the 18th largest craft brewer in the country, according to the Brewers Association, operates a separate distribution business to serve its home market.
Harbor Distributing LLC, High Country Beverage take home award

White Plains, N.Y.-based Heineken USA announced that Harbor Distributing LLC of California and High Country Beverage of Colorado have been selected as this year’s recipients of the company’s 1864 Award for Responsibility and Sustainability. For the first time, the 2016 selection process considers environmental sustainability efforts, as well as best-in-class practices promoting responsible consumption and moderation, the company says. The award was presented to the winners on Oct. 20 at the Heineken USA annual National Distributor Conference in Chicago.
Acquisition expands Colorado distribution of import, craft beers

Craft and import beer distributor C.R. Goodman, Aurora, Colo., announced that it will sell the assets of its distribution business to New York-based Breakthru Beverage Group’s Colorado division: Breakthru Beverage of Colorado. Since it began operating in Colorado in 2006, C.R. Goodman has grown into one of the top craft and import distributors in the state, the company says.
Originally operating out of a 4,000-square-foot warehouse and running a fleet of three delivery trucks, Bronx, N.Y.-based Manhattan Beer Distributors has become one of the largest beer distributors in the United States.
In 1976, the United States was celebrating its bicentennial, the National Basketball Association and the American Basketball Association agreed to a merger, and the CN Tower was built in Toronto, making it the tallest free-standing land structure at the time.
Outside of the big corporate brands, few modern breweries have a heritage that stretches across five generations. John H. Sleeman – great-great-grandfather of current proprietor John W. Sleeman – started in 1834 building a business inspired by the brewing recipes developed by his ancestors.
Alexandria, Va.-based National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) announced the return of the Share Your Story Contest for beer distribution employees who have never attended the NBWA Annual Convention & Trade Show. The contest is intended to highlight some of the 130,000 men and women who make up the beer distribution industry, including truck drivers, inventory specialists, graphic artists, sales representatives, warehouse workers and receptionists, the association says.
