Ziemann Holvrieka’s Elixr removes alcohol through membrane technology

Germany-based Ziemann Holvrieka has introduced Elixr, a solution for the dealcoholizing of beer based on membrane technology. As worldwide demand for alcohol-free beers grow, Ziemann Holvrieka supports its customers with customized solutions for the production of non-alcoholic beer — regardless of the production process, the company says. Elixr is Ziemann’s “economical and reliable solution” for removing alcohol by means of membrane technology. The system is based on reverse osmosis and permits a reduction of the alcohol content to less than 0.05% by volume, while also retaining the aromas and ingredients that characterize high-quality beer, the company notes. The Elixr line includes standardized equipment for the most common batch sizes, while continuous systems can also be provided in addition to batch processes. The systems ensure effective retention of volatile aroma components by using highly selective membranes, the company says. Thanks to their compact configuration, they can be integrated into existing production environments without taking up a lot of space, it adds. The standardized design also facilitates rapid processing. Ziemann Holvrieka collaborated with the Dutch membrane specialist Wafilin Systems to develop and implement Elixr, combining Wafilin’s decades-long expertise in sustained membrane technology with Ziemann’s broad knowledge in the brewing industry to provide highly effective, integrated solutions from a single source, it notes.
