CTI’s color-change technology creates brand differentiation

Cup printers, brand owners benefit from in-house design services

CTI Inks
November 30, 2020

Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI) unveiled a new suite of color-change technologies using solvent specialty inks to drive interest in packaging for beer, carbonated soft drinks and fountain cups. The inks include temperature-activated thermochromic inks; sunlight-activated photochromic inks; glow-in-the-dark inks and reveal technology, wherein a message is revealed after a beverage is consumed. In the past, water-based inks were the only option, but the new solvent-specialty inks eliminate the operational hurdles of water-based inks while the color-change technology can create “wow” moments for consumers, the company says. Additionally, brands are able to showcase the uniqueness of the cup on social media and engage in a new form of content for digital marketing. Brands such as Coors Light have used thermochromic inks to turn their mountains blue and The Coca-Cola Co. ensured a cold promise for 7-Eleven consumers with its “Ice Cube” 16-ounce can. The color-change technology now is more affordable for cup printers and offers an innovative tool for printers to help drive new margins for their customers in quick-serve restaurants and convenience stores, it says. New in-house design services also help cup printers and brand owners develop concepts that can be quickly tested with consumers.
