As Standard-Knapp celebrates its 125th anniversary, the secondary packaging company announced an agreement to partner with EoL Packaging Experts (EoL), a market leader in end-of-line packaging solutions for the food and beverage industries. The merger creates a globally active industry leader for end-of-line packaging machinery and systems and marks the latest milestone in Standard-Knapp’s long history as a packaging industry leader, the company says.

Standard-Knapp’s history stretches back to 1894, which can be traced back to the founding of the Fred H. Knapp Co. and the release of some of the first packaging solutions. In 1931, Standard Sealing, a manufacturer of paper cutting and case sealing equipment, merged with the Fred H. Knapp company, thus changing its name to the now familiar Standard-Knapp.

Increased demand for its products forced Standard-Knapp to expand its existing facilities. In 1940, Standard-Knapp relocated to its present location in Portland, Conn., and has become a major industry in Portland with substantial local employment, the company says.

For 125 years, Standard-Knapp has pioneered the field of automatic packaging equipment and continues to offer the latest innovations in tray packers, tray loading machines, case packers, shrink wrappers and bottle packers. Providing reliable, flexible and easy-to-use packaging equipment, Standard-Knapp serves the food and beverage industries and other markets.

As it looks to the future, Standard-Knapp notes that its agreement with EoL and German packaging equipment company A+F Automation + Fördertechnik (A+F) will further the company’s growth in secondary packaging. Founded in 1974, A+F develops end-of-line packaging systems and together, the companies will draw upon their expertise to solve problems challenging the markets.
