Tamper-evident Seal Machine
PDC International Corp. introduced the 75 Series Shrinksealers for applying tamper-evident banding and labeling. The new series operates continuously without downtime. In addition to tamper-evident seals, 75 Series Shrinksealers can incorporate tear tab blades or slit tab blades for easy opening. It also applies full height bodysleeve labels at up to 300 containers per minute. For tamper-evident body sleeves, the sleeve label encapsulates the cap with a horizontal perforation for consumer tamper evidence. A built-in material accumulator allows for continuous machine operation without stopping for roll changes. The 75 Series Shrinksealers accommodate to almost any product shape as well as a wide range of sleeving and labeling materials.

Metal detector
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. launched the entry-level Apex 100 metal detector. The model, an addition to the Apex line, offers basic metal detection capabilities in an easy-to-use system. The Apex 100 detects all types of metals, including stainless steel, to help customers fulfill quality goals and protect downstream production equipment. The model is an entry-level metal detector that is affordable and has quick installation, easy integration, an easy-to-use interface and application flexibility.

Recyclable 3D cup
Big3D.com introduced a Lenticular cup that is recyclable, reusable and environmentally friendly. Unlike most lenticular cups, Big3D’s 3D/Motion cups are made from 100 percent polypropylene. The lenticular lens also is the cup body, which means the cup is reusable as well as easily recyclable under Recycle Code 5. The new cup has the same three-dimensional depth and image vibrancy for which the company is known. 3D/Motion Lenticular cups are available in 12-, 16-, 20- and 32-ounce sizes in addition to custom shapes and sizes.

Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. released Version 7 of its Simatic PCS 7 Process Automation System. The system gives plant operators new ways to minimize total cost of ownership, protect automation assets, minimize downtime and optimize process performance. Version 7 integrates new and existing automation systems and devices within a single platform. It also boasts engineering, visualization, plant-wide asset and maintenance management tools.

Aseptic system
Vacuum Barrier Corp. introduced its new Nitrodose High Speed Aseptic (HSA) liquid nitrogen dosing system. The new model has a high-speed dosing valve for precision liquid nitrogen dosing at the highest aseptic line speeds. The Nitrodose HSA is designed with high filter integrity to provide sterile, low-pressure liquid nitrogen consumption at all aseptic packaging line speeds. The system features rounded edges and a stainless steel valve cover to withstand high-pressure water or chemical clean up and allow liquid to roll away from the opening of the package. Similar to the company’s entire Nitrodose systems, the HSA is equipped with dose compensation logic, ramp up/down with line speed changes and a PLC control panel.

Modular labeling system
P.E. USA Inc. released its P.E. Modular Labeler. The labeling stations are modular for interchangeable labeling, depending on the application. P.E. Modular Labeler is compatible with pressure-sensitive, cold-glue, hot-melt or roll-fed label applications. It operates at speeds ranging from 100 to 800 bottles per minute.

Easy-pull crown closure
World Bottling Cap Holdings Inc. launched the Easy-Pull Bottle Cap (EPBC) crown closure for glass and aluminum beverage bottles. The Easy-Pull cap features a pull-tab that allows for easy opening of crown closures on bottles without bottle openers or twist tops. The single-use crown is a tamper-proof closure that can be four-color decorated. The EPBC was designed to be used on current production line equipment and meet production standards as well as International Environmental Protection codes.

Barcode applicator
Imaje released the 2000 Series pallet and carton identification solution. The Imaje 2000 Series prints and applies pallet identification labels with 100 percent barcode legibility. The label is DIN A5 portrait format and includes UCC/EAN-128 barcodes, unique pallet identification number, article code, expiration date, batch number and quantity, among other features. Complying with GS1 norms, the barcodes are applied and checked using its integrated scanner. The machine is easily integrated and flexible, using a right- or left-handed applicator. It also offers enhanced security and the latest in connectivity options.

Product recycling
All Plastics Recycling Inc. is capable of disposing off-spec and outdated liquid products in plastic bottles and aluminum cans in an environmentally approved manner. The company uses a unique shredding process to extract the liquid by-products from containers and then granulate or bale the bottles and cans, making the product indistinguishable. It also issues certificates of destruction and disposal when materials are received and processed.

Eco-friendly floor coating
Tennant Co. introduced a new coating for beverage and food processing plants. Eco-CWO is the newest addition to the company’s Eco-ProTekt line of coatings and is specially designed to reduce odors and food borne illnesses caused by bacterial growth. The Eco-CWO is a one-coat seamless thermal shock-, chemical- and slip-resistant coating. It is available in the Eco-ProTekt color choices of beige, red, dark gray and light grey. It comes as a water-borne urethane, which reduces evaporation and contamination, is virtually odor-free and contains no volatile organic chemicals.

TCP Reliable has made available the TimeSaver96 PUR for low-heat conductivity product shipping. The TimeSaver96 PUR is qualified under ISTA 7D Performance Test Procedures and incorporates the same packaging configuration for both winter and summer cycles, which keeps packout and inventory simple and easy. Each shipper includes an inner box to house and protect the load, and Phase 5 thermal control panels to maintain footprint and ensure the correct temperature. Infrared camera
Safety Vision agreed to promote the PathFind IR from FLIR Systems Inc., Wilsonville, Ore. The PathFind IR is an infrared camera designed to make night driving safer for the commercial trucking industry. The FLIR system increases a driver’s line of sight five times farther than headlight beams and increases visibility in total darkness, smoke, dust, rain, snow and light fog. The camera system allows drivers more time to react to roadway hazards.

Laser marking system
Videojet Technologies introduced the 3120 10-watt laser marking system. The model delivers quick marking speed, complex marking capabilities and easy integration for a wide range of permanent coding applications. The 3120 can mark up to 1,200 characters per second at line speeds of up to 10 meters per second. It uses fast scanners and high-speed digital signal processing to provide permanent marking with no degradation of code clarity. Videojet’s 3120 marks complex, multi-line alphanumeric messages, foreign language fonts, graphics, symbols and machine-readable codes. The system, which works on a range of products and materials, can integrate into the production line.

Asset information software
Emerson Process Management announced Version 2.5 of its AMS Suite: Asset Portal software. The updated offering allows users to customize enterprise-wide asset information, including filtering and reporting alerts, polling on demand and graphical asset health reports. AMS Asset Portal is a Web-based tool that captures asset information from a wide range of internal sources and customizes data. The program allows management personnel to obtain information to identify critical equipment that is not performing, and predict unexpected failures or off-spec product. As part of Emerson’s PlantWeb digital plant architecture, AMS Asset Portal consolidates field-generated data into a single view. The company also made available the DeltaV InSight integrated control performance software as part of the DeltaV version 9.3 release. The new release offers advanced diagnostics and adaptive tuning capabilities.

Shrink label innovations
Klöckner Pentaplast features its newest shrink-label technologies. New to its Pentaprint line of shrink-labels is the E749/22, a high-shrink polyester film with multiple shrink characteristics for full-body shrinksleeve labeling of highly contoured containers. The film allows for high shrink properties that require low shrink force to produce a finished label. Its E749/52 AS7 polyester film for full-body shrinksleeve labels was designed specifically for narrow neck containers. Also new in the line is the E749/55 high-yield PETG films, which have 70 percent shrink properties for full-body shrinksleeves and multi-packs. The company also introduced L282/41 vinyl roll-on shrink-on (ROSO) label film for wraparound applications. The new model has 55 percent shrink properties, and allows for high visibility and superior graphics.

Printer applicator
ID Technology designed the Model 250 Corner Wrap System printer applicator for production floors with limited space. The Model 250 features a space-saving design with compact footprint of 16 inches deep by 38 inches long. Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys, released three new software applications that work seamlessly with the latest Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server reporting services. Information Server 3.0, formerly known as SuiteVoyager software, is a Web content server for all Wonderware graphics, reporting and analysis applications. It provides simplified report building, user-specified Web parts and information collaboration. Wonderware’s Historian 9.0 software license bundle includes advanced data storage, filtering or compression and multiple retrieval modes. In addition, the company released ActiveFactory 9.2 software for comprehensive trending, analysis and integration with Microsoft Office information.

Cost-effective filters
Argonide Corp. offers its cost-efficient line of NanoCeram filters. The line of filters uses electropositive capture vs. a sieve-based filtration process. NanoCeram filters achieve filtration levels normally associated with ultraporous membranes without the pressure drop. The filter cartridges provide flowrates and the low pressure drop of a 2-micron filter. Temperature controls
Thermo King launched the Spectrum SB Multi-Temperature System with SmartReefer2 (SR-2) controller for trailers. The Spectrum SB Multi-Temperature trailer unit allows for as many as three varying temperature zones. The system incorporates an SR-2 controller with enlarged display screen to allow customers to easily view cargo temperature and system set point value. Unit checks are made easy by checking all temperature zones at once with clear text messages available in 22 language settings. The company also released its new Heat King unit that uses forced air heating for dependable in-trailer or container heating.

Truck door system
Aleco introduced its Max Bullet Truck Mounted Strip Door System. It was designed to save fuel and increase efficiency by reducing the run time on the refrigeration unit and maintain a stable temperature to reduce product spoilage. The truck mount door system uses the company’s patented MaxBullet aluminum mounting bar, which reduces installation time by using two easy-to-install L-brackets, then easily snaps onto the mounting bar and locks in place. The MaxBullet Truck Mount System may be used with either conventional roll-up or swing doors. It also uses Aleco’s Clear-Flex II Scratch-Guard ribbed PVC strip material made to hang straight without warping in low temperatures.

Oxygen sensor
G3 Enterprises introduced OxySense portable oxygen analyzer to accurately measure oxygen levels inside sealed bottles or packages. The OxySense does not require opening or destroying the package or consuming oxygen during the process. Bottlers can measure both the concentration of oxygen in a package’s headspace and the dissolved oxygen in the liquid, and these measurements can be repeated over time, which allows for a reduction in sample size and amount of product required for long-term shelf life studies. OxyDots are applied to the inside of the package before filling and are activated using a special sensing unit after filling.

Adhesive
National Adhesives introduced Duro-Tak 34-659B, a hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive designed with the optical clarity required by the clear label market. The adhesive is suitable for narrow and wide web applications and has clarity on polyolefin films. It is also suited for clear film label, overlay, decal and polyethylene bag closure applications. In addition, the company offers Duro-Tak 24-659B that is resistant to pasteurization, water, cold temperatures and flagging (wing-up) in curved surface applications.

Door protector
Stjern Corp. introduced the Defendadoor series overhead door protector to protect industrial overhead doors from damage caused by forklifts, pallet jacks or pallets. The Defendadoor absorbs and displaces the energy from an impact by directing the forces downward and to the steel side U-channels. The system installs easily using existing hardware and saves money over time by avoiding repair costs.
