Dr Pepper partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana for the Dr Pepper Challenge, which will support the development of the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. Dr Pepper will match donations up to a total of $250,000 over the next five years to accelerate fundraising for the house, which is set to open in 2012.

“Dr Pepper is proud to be a part of building the world’s largest Ronald McDonald House,” said Tom Jerik, market development director for Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Plano, Texas. “We are committed to helping the communities in which we do business and are passionate about helping build 14 stories of care and comfort for the families of hospitalized children. We know our customers will be too.”

The new Ronald McDonald House will offer private rooms and communal areas for parents to stay near the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Prentice Women’s Hospital and the Rehabilitations Institute of Chicago.

The company enlisted former Chicago Bears Hall of Fame defensive tackle Dan Hampton to serve as the campaign’s spokesperson. Hampton will appear in a television public service announcement and will make public appearances in support of the Dr Pepper Challenge, the company says.
