Peet’s Coffee & Tea expands into Washington, D.C.

Beverage chain to open 23 new stores across the metro area
April 7, 2014

Emeryville, Calif.-based coffee and tea chain Peet’s Coffee & Tea announced its first major retail launch in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The company opened its flagship Washington, D.C., location on April 7 and will open 22 more stores in a phased rollout across the market this year. The expansion will create approximately 350 local jobs and raise the chain’s total store count to 300 stores, the company says. Following the expansion, Washington, D.C., will be the company’s second-largest retail market, second to California, and its biggest East Coast retail footprint, it says.

Brisk, an iced tea brand of Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo, announced the next phase of its Brisk Bodega platform, including a new marketing campaign — "Not Half Bad" — as a part of its efforts to better connect with its core consumer base. The new campaign is the result of ethnographic research on the demographic, which provided insights that Brisk has infused into all of its 2014 activations, according to the brand.

GMCR, Krispy Kreme announce multi-year partnership

Krispy Kreme Smooth and Decaf coffees will be available in K-Cups by end of 2014, companies say

Waterbury, Vt.-based Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) and Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme have reached a multi-year agreement to bring Krispy Kreme signature coffee to K-Cup packs for the Keurig brewing system. The companies plan to launch Krispy Kreme coffees in Smooth and Decaf varieties in K-Cup packs online at keurig.com, krispykreme.com as well as at participating Krispy Kreme shops, grocery, retail and away-from-home channels throughout the United States by the end of the year.

Coca-Cola, GMCR enter long-term partnership

Soft drinks company to purchase 10 percent minority stake in coffee company
February 6, 2014

The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR), Waterbury, Vt., have signed a 10-year agreement to collaborate on the development and introduction of The Coca-Cola Co.’s global brand portfolio for use in GMCR’s forthcoming Keurig Cold at-home beverage system. Under the global strategic agreement, GMCR and The Coca-Cola Co. will cooperate to bring the Keurig Cold beverage system to consumers around the world. In an effort to align long-term interests, the companies also entered into a Common Stock Purchase Agreement whereby The Coca-Cola Co. will purchase a minority equity position in GMCR.
