Inspection equipment allows for smoother beverage operations

Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools become a popular form of inspection equipment

Cognex recently unveiled its collaborative AI-driven platform.

June 29, 2026

The expression “smooth sailing” often is used to describe a situation that moves forward with ease and minimal issues, if any at all. In the beverage industry, inspection equipment helps operations run smoothly and suppliers are investing in its products and technology to keep it that way.

Natick, Mass.-based Cognex Corp. recently unveiled OneVision, an inspection platform powered by collaborative artificial intelligence (AI). OneVision is a prime example of the role AI is playing in inspection equipment.

After a beta launch in June 2025, more than 100 customers worldwide have used the platform to accelerate AI-powered vision development and deployment. Many users progressed from single-line applications to multi-site rollouts in days instead of months, Cognex says. This momentum reflects a broader shift as manufacturers move beyond isolated AI pilots toward connected, enterprise-wide inspection strategies, it adds.

“AI vision has long delivered value, but scaling it across operations has remained a barrier,” said Matt Moscher, Cognex president and CEO, in a statement at the time of the official launch in May. “Manufacturers encounter recurring challenges — from fragmented workflows to models that don’t adapt across environments. OneVision addresses this by unifying the simplicity of the edge with the scalability of the cloud, helping organizations move from isolated pilots to consistent, enterprise-wide deployment.”

Addressing a persistent challenge in industrial AI, OneVision deploys advanced vision applications at enterprise scale without adding complexity or slowing production, Cognex notes. This platform introduces a cloud-to-edge architecture, where AI models are trained, managed and governed within the cloud, the company explains, all while inspection runs at the edge on Cognex vision systems for real-time, reliable execution.

Users can centrally manage the entire AI lifecycle, from collecting and labeling production images to refining models, while also deploying updates consistently across global fleets of devices. The platform is optimized to work with Cognex’s latest systems, such as In-Sight 3900 and In-Sight 6900.

“While OneVision leverages the cloud for development and management, runtime inspection remains fully edge-based,” said Reto Wyss, vice president of vision engineering at Cognex, in a statement. “Once a model is deployed, no connectivity to the cloud is required. Production images stay local and latency is non-issue.”

Because it centralizes both model development and management, Cognex states that OneVision helps manufacturers:

  • Standardize inspection processes across sites
  • Reduce duplication of work across teams
  • Reduce scaling costs by up to 50%
  • Maintain version control and consistency across deployments

Cognex anticipates increased momentum for OneVision as manufacturers demand scalable AI vision to drive operational efficiency across global production networks, including those within the beverage industry.

Meanwhile, Mettler-Toledo product inspection recently exhibited at Interpack 2026. The company demonstrated how manufacturers can inspect every product with confidence, protect brands and profits, and comply with evolving regulatory requirements under the theme “Inspect. Protect. Comply.”

“Manufacturers are under growing pressure to maintain product integrity and safety while managing rising costs and meeting increasingly complex compliance requirements.”

– Daniela Verhaeg, communications manager at Mettler-Toledo

“Manufacturers are under growing pressure to maintain product integrity and safety while managing rising costs and meeting increasingly complex compliance requirements,” said Daniela Verhaeg, communications manager at Mettler-Toledo, in a statement. “At Interpack, we are demonstrating how our latest inspection solutions, combined with monitoring software and lifecycle service support, help customers inspect every product with confidence, protect their profits and operations and comply with industry requirements more easily. This reflects our ongoing commitment to evolving our portfolio in line with real production challenges.”

Mettler-Toledo showcased its M50 R-Series metal detector, the X-series x-ray inspection equipment, its C35 high-performance checkweigher, and next-generation combination systems that feature both CM and CX configurations. The company also promoted its ProdX, a data management software connecting product inspection devices from across the line into a single, centralized view.

Its new M50 R-Series metal detector delivers improved detection sensitivity and is designed to increase productivity while simplifying compliance in modern production environments, the company says. The new series is expected to become the leading solution in the Mettler-Toledo metal detection portfolio, elevating the legacy of the Profile and Profile Advantage models.

Mettler-Toledo’s X-ray inspection X3 series was developed specifically for unpackaged, loose-flow and bulk products on conveyors. This series supports reliable, foreign-body detection in typically challenging handling environments, which the company says will help manufacturers “maintain inspection performance while improving efficiency and throughput.”

Interpack visitors at Mettler-Toledo’s booth also explored the X2 and X6 Series x-ray inspection systems. Together, these systems provide a comprehensive portfolio for inspecting packaged products across a wide range of formats, line speeds and application requirements, the company says. The combined x-ray offering “demonstrates how scalable inspection solutions can be deployed across different production stages to support quality, brand protection and regulatory compliance,” it adds.

The company demonstrated its C35 high-performance checkweigher, which reaches new performance levels and accommodates line speeds of more than 800 packs a minute. The C35 supports precise weight control at high throughput. It is designed for accuracy, reliability and ease of integration. The checkweigher helps manufacturers reduce product giveaway, identify under-fills and maintain compliance with weights and measures regulations, the company says.

Moreover, Mettler-Toledo showcased new-generation combination systems, including both CM and CX configurations. The solutions combine metal detection or x-ray inspection with high-performance check weighing in a single system, it notes. These technologies support physical contamination detection, product and package integrity checks, weight control and label inspection.

Mettler-Toledo’s data management software ProdX collects inspection results in real time, automates data capture and traceability and helps food manufacturers strengthen digitalization, documentation and food-safety compliance across their operations, the company says.

With inspection equipment manufacturers investing in their next generation equipment, beverage manufacturers can keep their operations running smoothly.
