The latest from critically acclaimed spirits brand Espanita Tequila is a limited-edition double barrel aged series.

The female-founded brand, which produces 100% blue agave tequila, recently unveiled its barrel reserve collection. Set to be released in small batches, the company says the series “will feature unique, complex and elegantly balanced tequilas.”

Espanita Double Barrel Reposado Tequila will be the first release from the collection. It has already received a 97-point rating and a Triple Gold Medal from the MicroLiquor Spirit Awards.

“Our limited Barrel Reserve collection reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship,” said Marina Wilson, president and founder of Espanita Tequila, in a statement. “We believe that it is innovation that is one of the main driving forces behind an incredible growth of tequila popularity in the last years that made this iconic spirit a beverage of choice for American consumers. We shall continue our experimentation with creative barreling and maturation approaches in hopes to bring more exciting new flavor expressions to Blue Agave fans soon.”

The Double Barrel Espanita Reposado Tequila will undergo an extended aging process with two different kinds of wood: maturing in American White Oak casks, then aged in freshly emptied bourbon barrels from producers in Kentucky. The company says these woods “mellow the spirit and enrich the tequila’s flavor profile,” which results in aromas of orange zest, apricot chutney, toasted honey, Cherry Heering and vanilla bean. Roasted agave, cherry cola and spiced nuts are just a few of the tasting notes.

During the second half of 2023, the brand plans to release a bourbon cask finished ultra-premium Double Barrel Espanita Añejo tequila.

The Reposado tequila will be bottled in 750-ml bottles at 40% alcohol by volume (ABV), with the bottles featuring the Sun in Splendor on the labels. It’s already available in select markets.
