In the first-ever release from the Fratelli Branca distillery, Milan, Italy, Branca USA, a New York-based import company, introduces Stravecchio Branca Italian Brandy (40 percent alcohol by volume) to the United States. First distilled in 1888, Stravecchio, meaning “extra old,” is produced with eau de vie aged four to five years in oak casks. After resting two to three months in one of the largest single-cask barrels in Europe, it is non-chill filtered and bottled, the company says. The five-generation-strong method gives the brandy its amber hue, floral nose, notes of dried fruit, apple, tea, and almond from the wood, and soft tannins, the company says. Stravecchio Branca’s suggested retail price is $39.99 for a 1-liter bottle.
