In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. has revived its first beer: Dunkles unfiltered dark lager. The beer originally made its debut at the opening of the company’s first restaurant in Palo Alto, Calif. Now, the limited-release beer is appearing on retail shelves in select markets, with additional markets scheduled for announcement in the coming weeks. Dunkles is packaged in a 750-ml swing-top bottle and contains 5.4 percent alcohol by volume. The beer features dark-roasted Munich malt, which constitutes 75 percent of the grist bill and gives the beer a sweet, caramel undertone, which is balanced with moderate hopping, the company says.
