Eagan, Minn.-based Biothera’s Wellmune WGP ingredient was found to offer a 40 percent reduction in upper-respiratory tract infection symptomatic days in long-distance runners, according to clinical research presented at the American College of Sports Medicine. Wellmune WGP also was found to prevent the suppression of the immune system that normally occurs after intense exercise, according to a clinical study published online in the British Journal of Nutrition.

 

D.D. Williamson, Louisville, Ky., released a new video in its “Expert Answers” series featuring David Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of the International Food Information Council Foundation, who addresses the increase in “clean label” requests and what the term means.

 

Flavor & Fragrance Specialties (FFS), Mahwah, N.J., partnered with Grounds for Health, a nonprofit organization that establishes women’s health care in coffee-growing communities. FFS’ One Quarter Can Save a Life program will donate 15 percent of all revenue from the purchase of coffee flavors inspired by women in coffee-growing regions.

The shareholders of Corn Products International Inc., Westchester, Ill., approved the company’s name change to Ingredion, which better showcases its role as a global ingredients solutions company, the company says.

 

London-based Tate & Lyle opened its new Commercial and Food Innovation Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The 110,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility is designed to facilitate customer collaboration through the development of new food and beverage products that satisfy consumers’ increasing demand for health, convenience, value and taste, and to accelerate their delivery to market, the company says.

 

SensoryEffects Flavor Systems, Bridgeton, Mo., acquired the assets of Flavors From Florida Inc., Bartow, Fla.

 

 Wild Flavors Inc., Erlanger, Ky., announced Vince Macciocchi will be the chief operating officer for the North American arm of the company, reporting directly to Michael H. Ponder, global chief executive officer of Wild Flavors GmbH.
