Allen Flavors Inc., Edison, N.J., was founded in 1990. The company started as a one-room, two-person operation. Since then, the company has evolved into one of the largest privately held suppliers of flavor to the beverage industry.

In 1990, the company supplied flavors to hundreds of coffee roasters and continues this product line today; however, the company’s main focus today is supplying flavoring systems to ready-to-drink (RTD) beverage manufacturers. Allen also supplies flavors and beverage systems to dairies throughout the country that produce non-dairy drinks, such as teas and fruit drinks.

The Edison campus boasts 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space where the company’s dry ingredients and flavors are manufactured and blended. This location also houses administrative offices, state-of-the-art research and development laboratories, an analytical laboratory and a flavor creation laboratory where art meets science to create the world’s latest exciting flavor concepts, the company says.

In 2008, Allen opened the Lenny Allen Sales Center in nearby South Plainfield, N.J. The complex also houses a quality assurance laboratory, an analytical laboratory and 110,000 square feet of manufacturing space where the liquid component of Allen Flavors’ various beverage systems are made. In 2003, Allen Flavors partnered with Nestlé Beverage as the U.S. master distributor of Nestlé’s Industrial Products, including coffee, tea, and coffee and tea extracts. The South Plainfield location serves as the distribution center for Allen Flavors and Nestlé Industrial Products.

Allen Flavors’ beverage bases, premixes and blends for teas, enhanced waters, energy drinks, retort beverages, juices, mixers and health and nutrition powders and beverages have become legendary in the beverage industry, it says. The company developed and continues to supply ingredients for both the most popular RTD shelf-stable iced tea in the world and the No. 1 rated refrigerated iced tea in the United States.

Acutely aware of the pulse of the latest market trends, Allen Flavors maintains the technology, talent, resources and passion to partner with its customers, putting them at the leading edge of industry innovations, Allen Flavors says. From raw material selection through development and ingredient supply to finished product, Allen Flavors’ expertise is with its customers.

“Give us a concept. We’ll give you a product ready for bottling,” says Joey Allen, president of Allen Flavors.
