Industry Issues: News Briefs

Rosemary Berkel Crisp, co-owner of Pepsi MidAmerica Co., Marion, Ill., and a women’s healthcare activist and philanthropist, died early this month at the age of 70 following a 12-year battle with ovarian cancer. Crisp ran Pepsi MidAmerica with her husband, Harry L. Crisp II, and prior to that, she worked as a nurse at Marion Memorial Hospital.

In October, Crisp was honored by Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with its Inspiring Women of Achievement Award, and at the time of her death, she was a trustee of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois, and a director of the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research; the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation; the John A. Logan College Foundation; the University of Tennessee Women’s Philanthropy Alliance; and the Marion Civic Center Foundation.

Patrick Healy, manager of Fetzer Vineyard’s Hopland Tasting Room, Hopland, Calif., and one of the earliest advocates for Fetzer’s sustainable business practices, died last month after a long bought with cancer. Healy is known for helping Fetzer become a “zero waste” company, creating a recycling program that reduced company waste to landfills by more than 95 percent. Fetzer also became an early adopter of onsite solar power and clean energy.

“We were blessed to have Patrick with us at Fetzer,” said Cindy DeVries, Fetzer’s general manager, in a statement. “His leadership, service and passion is reflected in every green thing we do at the winery.”

Liquid Lightning, Pompton Lakes, N.J., has entered into an agreement with Canada Dry New York for distribution of Liquid Lightning’s energy drinks in the New York/New Jersey metro area.

Richard Doyle, co-founder of Harpoon Brewery, will open the Brewers Association’s 25th annual Craft Brewers Conference with a keynote address in San Diego, on April 15. The Brewers Association expects more than 1,600 brewers, brewery owners, and brewing supply professionals to attend the conference. Aquamantra, Dana Point, Calif., will sell its products though Albertsons in 85 stores in the Southwest. In August, the company added John Recca as chief executive officer, and the company also recently added new 16.9-ounce “Mini-Mantras” this summer.

O.N.E. World Enterprises, Los Angeles, has partnered with United Natural Foods Inc. to distribute its products nationwide.

Hobarama LLC, Miami, maker of Bawls Guarana has added five new Anheuser-Busch wholesalers to its distribution network. In Connecticut, the company will work with Hartford Distributors, and in Maine it has partnered with National Distributors in Portland, Valley Distributors in Oakland, Federal Distributors in Lewiston and Maine Distributors in Bangor.

Potencia Energy Drink, Mooresville, N.C., has added Promesa Distributors Inc., which services more than 550 tiendas, bodegas and other Hispanic stores in North Carolina, as a distributor. The company also partnered with Pepsi of Central Virginia as the exclusive beverage distributor, covering a territory from Washington, D.C., to Norfolk, Va.
