Agreement unites two distributors as Breakthru Beverage Group

New York-based Charmer Sunbelt Group and Wirtz Beverage Group, Chicago, two family-run distributors of wine, spirits and beer, announced on Oct. 20 that the companies signed an agreement to substantially combine all of their beverage alcohol operations.
As craft brewers continue to churn out new and exciting products, they also are tasked with developing relationships with wholesalers who can support the growth of their brands. Recognizing the popularity of craft beer, many distributors are bolstering their portfolios as they foster partnerships with these entrepreneurs.

London-based Diageo has signed an agreement with Chicago-based distributor Wirtz Beverage Group, a division of Wirtz Corp., making it the exclusive national broker for Diageo’s beer, wine, spirits and ready-to-drink (RTD) brands in Canada.
Cicero-based company presents Green City Cocktails tent

Chefs and restaurants came out to share their culinary expertise at Green City Market Chef’s BBQ Benefit on July 18 in Chicago. Long-time sponsor and participant Wirtz Beverage Illinois, Cicero, Ill., presented its Green City Cocktails tent, enlisting the city’s mixologists to create one-of-a-kind craft cocktails. Drinks were made up of seasonal Green City Market farmers’ produce and Wirtz Beverage Illinois’ local and organic beverage brands including Casa Noble, Death’s Door, Templeton Rye and Greenbush Brewing, the company says.
With annual sales of more than $1.9 billion, Wirtz Beverage Group is making strides toward its vision of becoming the leading premium total beverage alcohol wholesaler in the United States by Dec. 31, 2012. Beverage Industry’s Wholesaler of the Year is now in its third and fourth generations of leadership and has gone through a rebranding process in order to unify its divisions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Nevada, Minnesota and Iowa.
