In-cab accessories can help enhance the driver experience

Organizers, docking stations support needs for today’s delivery cabs

Comfort, convenience, and safety are three concepts that fuel driver efficiency and productivity. When it comes to in-cab accessories, your fleet needs a full suite of solutions that, once installed, work together to tick all of those boxes and more. Let’s take a look at some of the innovations that are doing just that.

Storage Convenience

TigerTough, best known for its seat covers, also markets a variety of helpful items that make drivers’ lives a little easier by enabling them to keep the cab tidy and organized. Designed to fit on any seat with adjustable headrests, TigerTough’s seat organizer features an array of pockets in which to hold phones, eyewear, tools, and any other handheld items that the driver might need to access easily. It’s a much more orderly alternative to just tossing everything in a pile on the passenger seat.

The company also offers visor organizers to keep small items and documents like insurance information, toolbox keys, small flashlights, gas and parking access cards, and others within reach from the driver’s seat.

Meanwhile, TruckOffice has created the ConsoleOffice, designed to be a secure, locked spot to store a laptop, handheld printer paperwork, and other items when they’re not in use. It also includes space for hanging files and printer paper, an organizer for pens and pencils, and other small items that tend to get lost easily. The padded top serves as a comfortable spot for the driver’s elbow.

Device Docking

Havis Inc. offers tablet mounts for Apple iPad, Dell, Getac, Panasonic, Samsung and Zebra tablets, as well as universal rugged tablet cradles that support the products of most major rugged tablet manufacturers.

The mounts and cradles are all designed to help improve driver productivity by providing a secure location for charging and use in most environments. Its DS-TAB-400 and TC-400 Series, specifically designed for use with iPads, features a keyboard with fully-integrated Apple trackpad and ergonomic 78-key layout for precise comfort and a 14-key function row for quick adjustments. Havis also offers mobile phone mounts, like the PKG-MAG-101, phone cradle and magnet mount, with one-handed quick release for easy phone access and full access to the phone’s touchscreen and unobstructed access to all data ports. It’s fully adjustable, easily movable from vehicle to vehicle and designed to accommodate most popular smartphone models.

Mobile mounting solutions provider Gamber-Johnson also offers a wide array of docking systems. Most recently, the company announced the availability of a new mounting station designed for the Getac S510 laptop. The system promises full port replication, enabling drivers to connect all of their essential devices with two front-facing USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, one serial, one ethernet, one HDMI, and one USB-C ports.

Another prominent manufacturer of docking solutions, RAM Mounts, unveiled its Quick-Grip Pro XL vibration damping phone mount with Tough-Claw technology. Its spring-loaded holder provides a secure hold for phones and handheld devices, enabling drivers to insert and remove the device with a single hand. The Tough-Claw allows it to easily attach to rails and bars with outer diameters ranging from 0.625 inches to 1.14 inches.

Mirror Monitors

Rostra Accessories is one of the growing number of suppliers offering LCD-equipped rearview mirrors. Its 250-8274 model features a 7.2-inch diagonal LCD monitor with four RCA video inputs and turn-signal activated blind spot input. The LCD screen is auto-dimming and features anti-glare glass for night driving.

Zorg North America offers its 3302 mirror monitor, which comes with a 120-degree view rear camera and extension harnesses to route it to the vehicle’s rear. A 140-degree view DVR camera is also built into the mirror monitor to record from the vehicle’s front. Drivers can manage recorded video through the RoadCam app supported by Android and iOS phones.
