Pittsburgh-based H.J. Heinz Co. and Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods Group Inc. announced that they have signed a definitive merger agreement to form The Kraft Heinz Co., which would make the new company the third-largest food and beverage company in North America and the fifth largest in the world, the companies report.
Cullen Agricultural Holding Corp., Waynesboro, Ga., and Long Island Brand Beverages LLC (LIBB), Hicksville, N.Y., jointly announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to merge their respective companies.

Atlanta-based The Coca-Cola Co. signed a definitive agreement with Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reyes Holdings LLC, Rosemont, Ill. This agreement follows a letter of intent announced in February with Reyes Holdings LLC for the granting of territories in the greater Chicago area. The Coca-Cola Co. anticipates closing the transaction in 2015, but financial terms were not disclosed.
Acquisition increases Farmer Bros.’ presence in Southeastern U.S., hospitality sector

Torrance, Calif.-based Farmer Bros. Co. announced a definitive agreement to acquire from Tampa, Fla.-based Rae' Launo Corp. (RLC) assets relating to RLC's direct-store delivery (DSD) business that primarily serves convenience stores in the Southeast and its in-room distributor channel that primarily serves the hospitality industry.
Kenworth Truck Co., Kirkland, Wash., took its Kenworth T680 Advantage truck on the road this summer as part of its “Efficiency in Motion” tour, which visited numerous Kenworth-dealer-hosted events throughout the United States and Canada to show the truck’s fuel efficiency and cost savings. The company completed the tour Oct. 1.
San Diego-based Green Flash Brewing Co. announced that it has acquired Alpine Beer Co., also of San Diego. Green Flash Founders Mike and Lisa Hinkley and Alpine Beer Founders Pat and Val McIlhenney noted that the merger will allow the breweries to join forces to share resources, knowledge and experience.
Lassonde Industries Inc., Rougemont, Quebec, posted sales of $315 million in the third quarter of 2014, marking a 22.3 percent increase compared with the prior-year period. Sales for the third quarter included the Apple & Eve LLC (A&E) portfolio, which was acquired earlier this year. Profit attributable to the company's shareholders for this period totaled $10.6 million, reflecting a decrease of $600,000 from the third quarter of 2013.
