To meet increasing popularity and demand on the heels of its April launch in select major cities, Truly Spiked & Sparkling, a brand of Boston-based The Boston Beer Co., announced its new spiked sparkling water has expanded distribution.

Truly Spiked & Sparkling also announced a new variety 12-pack will hit shelves in June. The variety pack will include four bottles of each flavor: Colima Lime, Grapefruit & Pomelo, and Pomegranate.

The inspiration to experiment and develop Truly Spiked & Sparkling stemmed from two significant trends in the beverage world — the growth in the consumption of carbonated bottled water in the United States and an overall interest in low-calorie alcoholic beverages as drinkers seek ways to make their calories work harder for them, the company says.

"We've heard great feedback and received countless inquiries from drinkers looking for places to buy Truly Spiked & Sparkling near them," said Casey O'Neill, a member of the innovation team that developed Truly Spiked & Sparkling, in a statement. "With Summer just around the corner, we knew the time was right to get Truly Spiked & Sparkling into the hands of drinkers around the country. We believe it is the best tasting option for someone looking for a spiked beverage to stay cool and refreshed, without overloading on calories."

Every batch is crafted with simple ingredients and contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners, and the alcohol is made from fermented cane sugar, the company says.

Truly Spiked & Sparkling launched in more than a dozen states in April and will start hitting shelves nationally this month. It will be available in six-packs for a suggested retail price of $9.99-$10.99. Additionally, Truly Spiked & Sparkling variety 12-packs have a suggested retail price of $15.99.
