In HBO’s “Game of Thrones” series, various characters have tried to battle their way to claim the Iron Throne using everything from brute force to social cunning. Within the spirits industry, the battle for the throne has been a bit more civilized, but, nonetheless, the alcohol category now has a new king.
Just a few short years ago in 2010, Clayton Christopher, founder of Sweet Leaf Tea, which was acquired by Stamford, Conn.-based Nestlé Waters North America in 2011, joined with Chad Auler, founder of Austin, Texas-based Savvy Distillers and its Savvy Vodka brand, to form Deep Eddy Vodka, Austin, Texas.
Readers must have brains on their brain. In Beverage Industry’s December Readers’ Choice Product of the Month poll, Fairfield, Conn.-based Focus Now Solutions LLC’s Focus+ took home the honor after garnering 31 percent of the vote.
Expanding its line of vodkas, Deep Eddy Vodka will introduce its Lemon variety nationwide beginning in January 2015. The zesty lemon-infused vodka is made with all-natural flavors including real lemon juice and Texas aquifer water, the company says.
Square One Organic Spirits LLC launched Square One Bergamot, which is an unfiltered spirit featuring bergamot citrus, mandarin orange, navel orange, tangerine orange, ginger, coriander and juniper flavors.
