MillerCoors to give away small business grants

For the eleventh straight year, MillerCoors, Chicago, is giving small businesses in urban and multicultural communities a chance to compete for $150,000 in business grants through its MillerCoors Urban Entrepreneurs Series.

The program debuted in 1999 to provide training and resources to entrepreneurs and has awarded more than $1.4 million in small business grants, the company said.

“The MillerCoors Urban Entrepreneurs Series was created to help empower small urban businesses and we are proud to continue our commitment,” said Larry Waters, director of multicultural relations for MillerCoors, in a statement “In this tough economic climate, we recognize that entrepreneurship is the driving force to our country's economic recovery. The talent we see through our competition is quite impressive and we hope that that these businesses will one day become MillerCoors suppliers.”

The top winner of the company’s Business Plan Competition will receive a $50,000 grant for a start-up capital grant for new or existing businesses. Four others will receive $25,000 grants, the company said. Competitors also could become qualified MillerCoors suppliers.

Participants between the ages of 21 and 35 with businesses existing for five years or less must submit entries to www.millercoorsmues.com by noon on Oct. 1 to be eligible.
