drinktec now a five-day event

In the future, drinktec will take place over five days instead of six. In 2013, the world trade show for beverage and liquid food technology is to be held from Monday, September 16, to Friday, September 20. The exhibition management consulted with its advisory board to make the decision.

Last year, drinktec 2009 was a six-day event taking place in September. While much activity took place in the twelve exhibition halls on the first five days of the fair, visitor numbers dropped noticeably on Saturday, the last day of the fair, the show said. At its constitutional meeting, the advisory board agreed unanimously with the proposal of the exhibition management that the running time of drinktec be shortened from six days to five days.

"The Saturday was in the end an anachronism, quite simply it no longer fits into modern trade-fair practices," said Reinhard Pfeiffer, the managing director at Messe München, which responsible for drinktec, in a statement. "Together with our exhibitors we are confident that shortening drinktec to five days is the right decision. Visitor traffic will now be distributed evenly over the five days of the fair. The Friday will now of course take on the role of the last day of the fair, but it will still be a very important day for the visitors, and one they will not want to miss."

HFCS and Sugar: The Facts Every Marketer Needs to Know

AVAILABLE ON DEMAND

Despite the scientific consensus that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is safe, natural and nutritionally the same as table sugar, there has been vocal misunderstanding of these facts among consumers—and good-faith, though misguided, efforts by beverage marketers to respond to those consumers by removing HFCS from their products.
