Three Thieves, St. Helena, Calif., announced that its Bandit wines, packaged in Tetra Pak cartons, have been selected by Delta Air Lines as its exclusive by-the-glass wine on international flights. Bandit Chardonnay and Merlot, made from California grapes, will be served in economy class on all Delta and Northwest international flights outbound from the United States.

Bandit wines’ Tetra Pak containers were a major draw for Delta to bring wine on board in more convenient, lighter-weight and easily stackable and storable packaging along with giving a "green" dimension to Delta's wine service, Three Thieves says. The Bandit boxes are made of Tetra Prisma, which is comprised of 70 percent paper. For Delta, switching from bottles to Bandit’s cartons will mean a 50 percent reduction in the weight of wine for both ground transport and onboard service, resulting in lower fuel costs and a smaller carbon footprint, the company says.
