Sweet Leaf purchases green power

Sweet Leaf Tea, Austin, Texas, has purchased 1 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from Green Mountain Energy Co., also located in Austin, to offset the electricity required to operate its corporate headquarters — in a new LEED-certified building that it plans to move into this month — and manufacture and bottle its line of teas for one year.

Additionally, the two companies are launching a nationwide “Drink Green” program to encourage consumers to take a small step to help the environment. The program will run through November. “Sweet Leaf Tea has long been a proponent of environmental stewardship,” said Clayton Christopher, Sweet Leaf Tea’s founder and chief executive officer. “We see this partnership as a way for our customers to not only enjoy our all-natural drinks, but also join us in an effort to further neutralize our daily impact on the environment.”
