Coca-Cola reports second quarter growth

The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, reported worldwide volume growth of 5 percent and a net revenue increase of 5 percent for the second quarter of 2010.

Led by the Coca-Cola brand, volume grew 2 percent in North America, and internationally volume increased by 6 percent for the second quarter, the company reported. The company grew its volume 4 percent for the first half of 2010.

Year-to-date net revenue increased by 5 percent, the company said. Operating income increased by 13 percent in the quarter and by 15 percent year-to-date, it reported.

Brand Coca-Cola, which was up 5 percent in the second quarter and 4 percent year-to-date, aided the company’s growth through investments in global properties, such as the FIFA World Cup sponsorship and the “Open Happiness” marketing campaign. Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Turkey, Thailand, Russia, India and the United States saw strong growth in the Coca-Cola brand.

Total sparkling beverage volume increased 3 percent in the quarter, with international sparkling beverage volume increasing 4 percent. Total still beverage volume increased 10 percent in the quarter, led by continued growth in juices and juice drinks, sports drinks, teas and water brands. Still beverage volume increased 11 percent internationally.

The company also is engaged in integration planning for its acquisition of Coca-Cola Enterprises’ North American bottling operations, which it expects to complete in the fourth quarter of 2010, it said.
