Cans: The Sustainable Solution

Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As our planet buckles under the weight of continued population growth and corresponding demands on natural resources, we must balance supply and demand in responsible and sustainable ways.

Our four speakers will discuss the sustainability benefits offered by metal cans throughout the supply chain, especially with regard to the can’s premier recycling profile. Many packaging stakeholders are unaware that metal food and beverage cans are endlessly recyclable, meaning that they can be recycled again and again without loss of strength or quality. In fact, aluminum beverage and steel food cans are the most recycled food and beverage packages in the United States. Can recycling minimizes energy use, Co2 emissions, and decreases virgin material usage. Each can recycled substantially reduces the environmental footprint of the next can, and recycled cans are back on store shelves in as little as 60 days. Cans also help to significantly reduce food waste by providing nutritious and refreshing food and beverage choices alongside shelf life stabilization.
