Bacardi highlights corporate responsibility initiatives

Bacardi Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda, released its Corporate Responsibility Report that documents the family-owned, privately held spirits company’s improved global environmental efficiencies and increased engagement with responsible suppliers. In addition, the company also announced professional tennis player Rafael Nadal as the new Bacardi Ltd. Global Social Responsibility Ambassador and face of its “Champions Drink Responsibly” program.

The report, titled “Spirit for Life,” reinforces the company’s purpose and values as a corporate responsibility leader in the spirits industry, including promoting responsible drinking and delivering a more sustainable future.

For the first time, Bacardi Ltd. reported in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines to measure and report its economic, environmental, social and governance performance in standardized framework. The GRI-based reporting supports Bacardi’s existing commitment to the United Nations Global Compact, the company noted.

The report showcases Bacardi accomplishments in five strategic corporate responsibility pillars, which are as follows: marketplace; environment, health and safety; responsible sourcing; people; and philanthropy and community involvement. The company’s key achievements included the launch of an e-learning module for responsible marketing training, reduction of water consumption by 50 percent in five years, 29 percent reduction in energy use in the last five years, launch of the “Becoming Bacardi” immersion program for new employees to learn about the company’s heritage, brands and people, and contribution of $3.9 million to philanthropic and community involvement programs.
