A passionate 20+ year CPG alcohol beverage industry champion, in both the US and Canada, working first for the world’s leading brewer, Anheuser-Busch Inbev (ABI) and currently with one of the most successful privately owned, entrepreneurial, innovative and disruptive alcohol beverage companies in North America, the Mark Anthony Group of Companies (MAG). Phil is now in his 12th year with MAG and since 2013 has been leading the company’s US business.
Phil’s ability to build focused strategies, high performance teams, strong organizational culture and deliver sustained results is most evident in the transformation of the MAG US business from 2013 to 2019 under his leadership. During Phil’s tenure, the top line growth trend accelerated each year, generating total volume growth of 440%, revenue growth of 470%, creating significant enterprise value, all without Mergers or Acquisitions. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the MAG US business was the fastest growing Top 10 beer company in the country with national depletion trends of +17%, +29% and +90% respectively. Throughout 2014 & 2015 Phil also played a critical leadership role in the MAG strategic review and subsequent process to divest the MAG brands outside the US to ABI.
Phil graduated in 1998 from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in Marketing & International Business. In 2009, he was selected by the MAG Founder & Chairman, Anthony von Mandl, to attend the Global Institute of Leadership Development (GILD) and complete an 18-month personalized Executive Leadership Program in Boston with the Linkage Corporation and its founder, Dr. Philip J. Harkins. Phil’s continuous pursuit of learning is also evident in his annual participation in Executive Education Programs and in 2015 he received an Executive Scholar’s Certificate in Marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Chicago Chapter, a global network, learning and idea exchange platform for young CEO’s with 24,000 members in 130 countries.
