Ken is a third generation New Jerseyan bringing nearly 50 years of Dutch agricultural experience passed down through the Vande Vrede family. Ken has led three successful businesses in the highly-regulated medical cannabis/hemp and certified organic horticultural industries including: 1) HillviewMed Inc, a next generation cannabis and hemp company among the first awarded a license to grow and process hemp in New Jersey. Ken, with Hillview, launched Kalo, the first ever patent-pending truly water-soluble hemp infused beverage on the market. Only four short months after launching, Kalo was picked up by several of the largest distribution companies in the Northeast. 2) Terra Tech Corp, one of the first publicly traded, vertically integrated cannabis and agriculture companies focused upon producing the highest quality products in “Controlled Environment Agriculture” systems. Under Ken’s leadership as COO/Director, Terra Tech Corp acquired over $110M in assets and expanded into several emerging markets, including Nevada and California, raised over $70M in capital, became the first publicly traded company to “touch the plant,” received approval from the Securities Exchange Commission for S1 and S3 to raise capital on a schedule one drug, and passed a highly regarded Sarbanes-Oxley audit. Ken’s tenure with Terra Tech Corp resulted in increased annual revenues from $300K -$35M. Over 300 employees reported to Ken; and 3) Edible Garden, a five-acre Organic Certified, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Non-GMO hydroponic farm located in Belvidere, New Jersey. During Ken’s tenure at Edible Garden, the organization grew to over 1,800 retailers in 15 states. Ken negotiated contracts with major grocery stores including ShopRite, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, Raleys, Meijer, Kroger, D’Agostino Supermarkets, King Kullen, Market Basket and others, and oversaw the design and installation of Dutch-style automated hydroponic greenhouses.
