Putting a better-for-you twist on seasonal pumpkin beverages, Jamba Juice Co., Emeryville, Calif., is bringing back its Pumpkin Smash smoothie for the fall season. The drink is blended with real pumpkin and seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg, the company says.

"Fall is the season of pumpkins — the time when they are at their ripest and most abundant," said nutrition expert, author and Jamba Healthy Living Council member Elizabeth M. Ward in a statement. "Since pumpkins are a rich and natural source of beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A and is essential for eye health, indulging in treats made healthfully with this superfood ingredient is encouraged during this time of year."

Jamba's Pumpkin Smash smoothie is a good source of vitamin A, calcium and protein, the company says. The drink also is available in a Make It Light version with one-third fewer calories, sugar and carbohydrates.

"We are thrilled to be bringing back the Pumpkin Smash smoothie to our stores, exclusively during these autumn months," said Julie S. Washington, senior vice president and chief brand officer for Jamba Juice Co., in a statement. "At Jamba Juice, we are deeply committed to supporting healthy, active lifestyles and inspiring others to Live Fruitfully year-round, so it is important for us to be able to provide our customers with ways to maintain healthy habits during the tempting holiday season with better-for-you options."
