In response to a wave of lightweight closure solutions, Closure Systems International (CSI) released the Flex-Chuck, which offers a new approach to capping chuck design. Using an internal array of multiple and independent grippers, the patented Flex-Chuck design can adapt to a wide range of knurl patterns and varying closure dimensional tolerances, the company says. This flexibility reduces the need for changeovers while also decreasing capping chuck inventory requirements, it says. During testing, the hardened steel grippers did not show any signs of wear after more than a year of non-stop use, helping companies reduce maintenance costs by as much as 50 percent each year, it adds. Flex-Chucks are available in 28-, 33-, 38- and 43-mm variants.
