Ditch the weighting agents: A cost effective solution for delivering flavors and actives

Traditional weighting agents used in the delivery of oil soluble flavors and actives in beverages have several potential disadvantages to consumers and beverage marketers. Some, particularly brominated vegetable oil (BVO), may be viewed as a health concern by consumers while others may have regulatory limits on their usage and cause sedimentation in beverages. Traditional weighting agents can also be time consuming to use in process and expensive, contributing as much as 50% to the formulation cost of the emulsion.
