, Lausanne, Switzerland, will receive one of nine 2006 World Business Awards in support of the United Nations (UN) Millennium Development Goals for its Food for Development program. The award, which recognizes the role businesses can play in implementing UN goals for reducing poverty, was presented on behalf of the UN Development program, The Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum and the International Chamber of Commerce. Tetra Pak’s program initiates and supports school feeding and agricultural development programs through public and private partnerships. More than 40 million school children, 15 million of them living in developing countries, are served milk and other nutritious drinks in Tetra Pak packages.
Trimble, Sunnyvale, Calif., acquired Eleven Technology Inc., Cambridge, Mass., in an all-cash transaction. Eleven Technology will be reported within Trimble’s Mobile Solutions business segment.
Pro Mach Inc., Cincinnati, acquired Allpax Products Inc., Covington, La., and will become a new division within Pro Mach’s primary packaging business unit. With the acquisition, the company adds retorting and sterilization capabilities, and advanced material handling and automated control systems and software. The company also acquired The Glennon Group, Milwaukee, a provider of labeling, marking and packaging systems and services in the Midwest.
Toyota celebrated the production of its 250,000th lift truck at the Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing plant in Columbus, Ind. The majority of Toyota Material Handling USA’s lift trucks sold in the United States are manufactured at the Columbus facility.
NatureWorks LLC and Risupack Corp. signed a sales and trademark licensing agreement that will enable Risupack to purchase NatureWorks PLA resin and use the NatureWorks trademark and logo on its plant-based plastic products. Risupack will launch a product showroom in Tokyo called Risu Design Forum to display the full range of NatureWorks PLA-based plastic packaging Risupack produces for the Japanese market.
Pacific Ozone Technology, Benicia, Calif., shipped its 5,000th installation, a 6M24 Ozone Generation System imprinted with a special gold-colored tag that displayed the serial number 5,000. The 10-year-old company, with more than 100 standard products, held an employee celebration marking the milestone.
KHS USA Inc., Waukesha, Wis., restructured its commercial group to include a beverage area focusing on beer, soft drink, non-carbonated beverage, water and distilled spirits. The group is managed by Mike Brancato.
Amcor’s PET Packaging operation in North America is constructing a new custom PET blowmolding plant in Wytheville, Va., dedicated to the supply of PepsiCo heat-set containers primarily for the Gatorade product. The $80-million operation is scheduled to be in production by March 2007, with an initial annual capacity of more than 1 billion units.
