, Tampa, Fla., last month filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the third time in a decade. The manufacturer of glass bottles for beverages such as Yoo-Hoo and Budweiser said high energy costs had spoiled its finances and jeopardized a loan payment due Aug. 15. The company also confirmed it made accounting errors in financial statements as far back as 2001, two years before it went public.
Miller Brewing Co. recognized Multi-Color Corp., Cincinnati, as its Supplier of the Year for 2004. This is the third time the label producer has earned Miller’s top supplier award.
Nissan Diesel America, Irving, Texas, launched a rapid delivery program for light-duty van body-equipped UD Trucks. The program offers 10-day completion times and expedited delivery of finished units to UD Trucks dealers located in the Midwestern, Northeastern and Southeastern United States.

A section dedicated to the consumer packaged goods market gives details on appropriate coding technologies and case studies of customers who solved coding problems.
Ryder System Inc., Miami, was named a Visteon Important Partner (VIP) by Visteon Corp. for exemplifying “Best in Class” performance and “going above and beyond” to meet Visteon’s needs. Award recipients must achieve 100 percent concurrence across all customer functions and operating regions to confirm that they have demonstrated the high level of performance that Visteon promotes within its supply base.
Fibergrations, Nashville, has partnered with SATO Corp., Charlotte, N.C., to enable both companies to expand their offerings of RFID end-to-end software and hardware solutions, warehouse management solutions and complete installation and integration services. The combination of companies’ products, solutions and services simplifies the process to get EPC-compliant RFID solutions quickly to the marketplace.
Ball Corp., Broomfield, Colo., converted a beverage can manufacturing line in its Monticello, Ind., plant from the production of 12-ounce beverage cans to a line capable of producing beverage cans in sizes up to 16-ounces. In June, the company completed the conversion of a line in its Golden, Colo., plant from 12-ounce cans to 24-ounce specialty beverage cans.
For the third time in the past four years, MeadWestvaco Packaging Systems takes the President’s Award at the National Paperboard Packaging Competition. With a total of 235 entries in 30 categories, the Tailgate’r beverage carrier topped the list by demonstrating an ingenious new way of combining a case of beer with a beverage cooler.
