Simply Naked, a brand of Constellation Wines U.S., is a line of unoaked wines designed to express the true varietal character of the wine without the influence of oak barrels. It accomplishes this by aging the wine in 100 percent stainless steel, the company says. The Simply Naked inaugural collection includes the 2010 vintages of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 Chardonnay displays notes of Bartlett pear, Fuji apple and nectarine with medium-bodied layers of melon, fig and honey, the company says. The 2010 Pinot Grigio includes light-bodied citrus flavors and aromas of honeydew melon, white peach, passion fruit and jasmine spice, it says. The 2010 Merlot is described by the company as having blackberry fruit with black cherry, boysenberry, cola and a silky texture on the palate. The full-bodied 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon rounds out the red lineup with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum and tannins, the company says. Each variety has a suggested retail price of $9.99.
