Pernod Ricard USA introduced Olmeca Altos, a 100 percent blue agave tequila made in the Los Altos region of Mexico. The tequila was created by Master Tequilero Jesus Hernandez in collaboration with internationally acclaimed bartenders Henry Besant and Dre Masso. The Olmeca Altos distillery in Arandas, Mexico, uses a centuries-old method known as Tahona, in which the agave hearts are dried in brick ovens, crushed with volcanic stone and then distilled in traditional copper pot stills. The method produces tequila that is smooth enough to sip yet rich enough to preserve the agave taste in mixed drinks, the company says. Olmeca Altos is available in Plata and Reposado, which is aged in American oak barrels for six to eight months in the Chicago and Denver markets.
